Yes, we would go back to the hotel, but there were several things that we felt needed addressing. On both nights of our stay, there were large foreign coach parties, plus a large sports group the second night. These did not impinge on our stay at all, but the same girl was expected to manage the bar and serve the few couples also booked in for evening meal. She did her very best and it was not her fault that we had to wait for exceptionally long periods to be served. There was obviously not nearly enough staff available. An issue that has apparently been raised by others. With such large groups in, somebody needed to be behind the bar permanently for the dinner period. At breakfast, the same issue arose. The staff were very busy clearing away after the coach parties, who had been down earlier, so it took considerable time for someone to take our order for hot food. Also, the cold buffet was in need of replenishing. Several dishes were empty and I had to wait 10mins for someone to fetch clean glasses for the fruit juice. I do not feel it was the fault of the staff who were obviously working flat out to cope with all the demands. I do feel strongly that staffing numbers need to be looked at and increased at a time of high occupancy. My final comment is about the bathroom. The bedroom was absolutely fine, but the bathroom, though clean, was in obvious need of updating. Mould in the grouting around the bath is not acceptable in a modern hotel setting. We were not expecting 5* service, but this is the first time we have felt the need to complain about the standard of any hotel we have stayed in.

Would have been better with a different dinner menu rather than the same choices on two consecutive nights

Initially surprised to be told our room was separate to the main hotel building, but the purpose built accommodation was of a high standard and had a good view of the estuary.

I do feel that the hotel needs some signage from the main road. I'm sure this would benefit them as it is remotely situated.

The hotel was functional for what we needed but was bland and without feeling as were the staff. The room was as expected functional but the drawers were dirty so we didn't use them and there was a packet of condoms left from a previous guest on the top shelf of the wardrobe. This does bring the whole standard of housekeeping and hygiene into question and was reported to the staff who dealt with it. As this happened on out arrival it did overshadow the weekend. My husband decided to have a pint of cider whilst in the west country, nothing too rustic just normal draught cider, not cold enough and completely flat, thought it may be like that so decided to have a pint of Amstel larger next time, Flat and not cold enough so gave up. This hotel has the potential to be very good but needs a shake up and standards greatly improving. On the positive side, nice location, plenty of free parking, good rates and good food.
