Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Daily Telegraph calls the location of Knoll House "sensational". It's five minutes' walk from Studland Bay. This 4-mile-long beach has crystal-clear waters and views of Old Harry Rocks.
  • The hotel was a regular retreat of author Enid Blyton. Several local landmarks—including Studland and Corfe Castle—inspired settings in her stories.
  • Leisure facilities include a pitch-and-putt course, tennis courts, and an indoor swimming pool. Other facilities include a games room and a cinema room. Children stay for free but are charged for meals as taken.
  • Swanage, which has a pier and a steam railway, is around 15 minutes' drive away. You can also visit Fort Henry, a 15-minute walk from the hotel. This is where Winston Churchill, President Eisenhower, and George VI watched troops prepare for D-Day.
  • You can drive 35 minutes to see Durdle Door, one of the most photographed spots in the UK.
  • For a scenic hike, follow the South West Coast Path towards Shell Bay. A ferry runs across to Sandbanks peninsula every 20 minutes.

We had a lovely stay at Knoll House, lots of facilities like table tennis and pool and lovely comfy sofas with a lovely log fire. Rooms were good and clean and the whole hotel was so warm and inviting. Great ambience and would definitely go again.

The whole hotel is a bit care worn but everything worked ok the room was comfortable and it was great to have so many facilities to use especially with the dodgy weather now. Staff were very friendly and the dinner and breakfast were very good. The whole place has a homely vibe.

We really liked the old fashioned feel to this hotel, and loved the location on Studland Bay. The room was fine, but a little cold as the hotel had problems with the boiler during our stay. The heated towel rail never worked. The Games room and the indoor pool were added bonuses. And the food both nights was delicious!

Not the place to go if you don't like dogs!

Disappointed with the weather (it rained all the time we were there!) so not the Hotel's fault. The dinner was good vfm - wine was far too expensive though. Breakfast was excellent however!
Other Comments
It's a shame the hotel didn't have enough room in the dining room for those with dogs in tow. We were clearly told on arrival for dinner that we were not in the correct dining room and that there was no availability for sitting in the "doggie diner" - unfortunately as we went past there was an empty table, which on enquiring with the maitre d' we were told that if we could wait 10 minutes this could be our table. We declined as we had already put our pet back in our room (outside in the suite area some 100-150 metres away - and it was still raining!). This rather spoilt my evening, which was a birthday treat!

Over all - excellent weekend away.
Other Comments
dinner- limited veg selection (only green beans on both nights). Very limited meat selection on the saturday 2 offered - beef & lamb, we opted for lamb and were told the lamb was not available- pepper beef only and this was at the start of service (7pm). The chef needs to extend his skill set to using a microwave for peas and other veggy. Over all - a less than average meal. I asked for a pint of guiness in the bar - came as not draught but a can through a machine and i went away £7.50 lighter for a can of beer.!!
