Located right in the centre of Salamanca -- described by Lonely Planet as "a city of rare beauty" -- Room Mate Vega offers a "bright and breezy" (The Daily Telegraph) stay within easy access of major sights.
Set on a cobbled side street, the hotel occupies a traditional building made from honey-coloured stone, less than five minutes' walk from Plaza Mayor -- "one of the largest and most beautiful squares in Spain" (Fodor’s).
Both the imposing Dominican monastery, Convento de San Estéban, and Casa de las Conchas, with its shell-covered exterior, are around five minutes' walk away. Museo Art Nouveau y Art Déco, which houses a noted collection of paintings and sculptures; the University, known for its ornate façade; and Salamanca's two adjacent cathedrals are all around 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.
There’s a contemporary gloss to Room Mate Vega's public spaces, which include a lobby where "wrought-iron structures, black and white floor tiles and green and white striped sofas create a pavilion feel" (The Daily Telegraph). Guests can start the day with a buffet breakfast (supplements apply) and relax on the compact roof terrace in fine weather.
Guestrooms feature simple décor in neutral tones and marble bathrooms. Higher-tarriff rooms have extra space and desks, while top-level Executive Rooms come with sitting areas and city views. Select rooms also have arched balconies and vaulted ceilings. Wi-Fi is free.
