The attractions of the southern French countryside surround La Mas Du Terme, a secluded hotel offering guestrooms and self-catering apartments, positioned between the activity-rich Ardèche region, “a pie-shaped slice of pine, oak and sweet chestnut woods centred around an ancient gorge” (The Independent) and Le Gard, known for its picturesque villages, cuisine and historic architecture. Set off a winding rural road amid 40 hectares of vineyards, the hotel is housed in a complex of converted farm buildings overlooking Mount Ventoux, a 10-minute drive from Barjac, whose town centre dates from the 14th century. Aven d'Orgnac, a cave system with striking crystal formations, is 15 minutes’ drive away, whilst both Avignon, famed for its bridge and medieval palace, and Pont du Gard, an ancient Roman aqueduct, are around an hour’s drive from the hotel.
Tree-lined paths connect the mottled stone buildings at La Mas Du Terme, which opens to rustic interiors with a modern update. Guests can dine on seasonal regional dishes beneath the vaulted ceiling of the hotel restaurant, decorated with colourful light installations and extending to a veranda and a leafy patio, and enjoy a dip in the two outdoor pools flanked by umbrellas and deckchairs. There’s also a wellness area offering a sauna, a Jacuzzi and massage services (fees may apply).
Spread over three distinct lodgings, accommodation ranges from guestrooms with exposed stone walls and contemporary furnishings to glossy countryside-view quarters featuring terraces with hot tubs, and apartments sleeping up to six people, equipped with living rooms and kitchens. All units come with TVs, free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning, plus mini bars.
