Why We Love It

  • It's a boutique hotel with impressive views across Llandudno's bay
  • You can dine in the new grill restaurant or sip cocktails by the bar
  • Little Orme headland is great for hiking, and you can catch a cable car or tram to the summit of Great Orme for panoramic views of the coastline

Overview

Hailed as the Queen of the Welsh Resorts for over a century, Llandudno retains its reputation as a picturesque seaside resort, with a smart promenade lined with Victorian townhouses. The Belmont Llandudno is a new hotel housed in a traditional building, and it's set on the North Parade with sweeping views of the bay.

Take a stroll along Llandudno Pier -- the longest pier in Wales -- or walk a couple of minutes to the Great Orme Tramway terminus and catch a ride along the 1.5-kilometre route into Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve (alternatively, you can take a cable car).

The limestone headlands of Great Orme and Little Orme "provide a dramatic frame for the gently curving Victorian frontage of Llandudno" (Rough Guides) and the hotel sits at the foot of the former. You can explore the Great Orme Mines -- dating back 4000 years to the Bronze Age -- which are open daily for visits and are around 20 minutes' walk or five minutes' drive away.

West Shore beach is a golden-sand bay backed by rugged cliffs, on the other side of Llandudno's town centre. It's great for flying kites and picnics and is 20 minutes' walk from the hotel. Conwy, a walled market town that's home to a medieval castle and the smallest house in Britain, is 15 minutes' drive.

Bedrooms have tea- and coffee-making facilities, TVs and free Wi-Fi. You can sip cocktails at the bar, or tuck into one of the juicy steaks served at the on-site grill restaurant, which is open to the public.

From the press:

  • "Llandudno retains an undeniably dignified air, bolstered by its ever-improving selection of chic hotels and quality restaurants" -- Rough Guides

Recently renovated in a mellow style. The room was on the second floor with a superb view over the bay.Staff really helpful. Bottom line - would I stay again - yes.

Downers - can be tricky finding a parking place. Breakfasts were good and served efficiently and in a timely manner. Sharing starter at dinner was very good - but oh dear the ribeye steak was not good - strange cut with no marbling, for MR it was very black and tougher than old boots.

Staff were welcoming and friendly. Evening meal and breakfast were good. Room was small but comfortable.
Other Comments
Had to drive around the town of Llandudno for over one hour before we managed to find somewhere to park the car. Parking is clearly a major problem in this town. More disappointing than that was that we had no hot water at all in our bathroom so were unable to shower or wash.
