Overview

Hailed as the Queen of the Welsh Resorts for over a century, Llandudno retains its reputation as a picturesque seaside resort, with a smart promenade lined with Victorian townhouses. The Belmont Llandudno is a new hotel housed in a traditional building, and it's set on the North Parade with sweeping views of the bay.

Take a stroll along Llandudno Pier -- the longest pier in Wales -- or walk a couple of minutes to the Great Orme Tramway terminus and catch a ride along the 1.5-kilometre route into Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve.

The limestone headlands of Great Orme and Little Orme "provide a dramatic frame for the gently curving Victorian frontage of Llandudno" (Rough Guides) and the hotel sits at the foot of the former. You can explore the Great Orme Mines -- dating back 4000 years to the Bronze Age -- which are open daily for visits and are around 20 minutes' walk or five minutes' drive away.

West Shore beach is a golden-sand bay backed by rugged cliffs, on the other side of Llandudno's town centre. It's great for flying kites and picnics and is 20 minutes' walk from the hotel. Conwy, a walled market town that's home to a medieval castle and the smallest house in Britain, is 15 minutes' drive.

Bedrooms have tea- and coffee-making facilities, TVs and free Wi-Fi. You can sip cocktails at the bar, or tuck into one of the juicy steaks served at the on-site grill restaurant, which is open to the public.

From the press:

  • "Llandudno retains an undeniably dignified air, bolstered by its ever-improving selection of chic hotels and quality restaurants" -- Rough Guides

The hotel was excellent, in a great position with great views from our room.

The only negatives were banging doors and very noisey creaking floor boards.
