Villa 55 offers traditional Moroccan accommodation in a secluded spot on the outskirts of Marrakech. Set in the tree-filled Palmeraie oasis area with views of the Atlas Mountains, the hotel occupies a cluster of terracotta-toned buildings linked by leafy courtyards and surrounded by gardens planted with bougainvillea, rose bushes and olive groves. It’s around a 20-minute drive from the city’s historic Medina, packed with landmark architecture, colourful souks and vibrant restaurants, a 10-minute drive from Musée de la Palmeraie contemporary art gallery and 25 minutes by car from elegant Menara Gardens, dating from the 12th century. Amelkis Golf Club is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from the hotel.
There’s a relaxed Moorish-style atmosphere to Villa 55’s interiors, which feature carved wood furnishings, low-slung sofas and rustic fireplaces. Guests wake up to a complimentary breakfast of Moroccan pancakes, and can dine on local specialties made with ingredients grown in the hotel’s vegetable garden and take a dip in the palm-lined outdoor pool. The hotel also offers three relaxation areas including a library, a TV lounge and a poolside bar, and other amenities include massages and beauty treatments, as well as tours of the local area, cycling excursions and cooking classes (surcharges may apply).
The hotel’s individually decorated guestrooms continue the Moorish vibe, with touches including wrought-iron bedsteads, fireplaces and private gardens; there’s one room with a sofa bed. Suites sleep up to four people and come with distinct features such as private mountain-view terraces, sunken baths, glass-walled showers and separate living space. All include air conditioning and free Wi-Fi.
