Riad Sapphire and Spa is a traditional riad (a Moroccan house with an interior courtyard) in Marrakesh's Medina, which is known for its maze of souks (markets) and red sandstone buildings.
It's is a 25-minute walk through the labyrinthine streets to the city's main square, Djemaa el-Fna, where you'll find "a whole carnival of storytellers, acrobats, musicians and entertainers", according to Rough Guides.
The Koutoubia Mosque -- the city's largest mosque -- is less than 25 minutes' walk from the hotel, while the Saadian Tombs, which are over 400 years old, are around 30 minutes' walk away.
Marrakesh has plenty of green space to explore, "from the lush courtyards of its riads to the expansive formal gardens of its palaces and museums" (The Guardian). The Badi Palace and the Bahia Palace are both within 30 minutes' walk of the hotel, while the Jardin Majorelle, "one of the glories of Marrakesh" (The Telegraph), is 20 minutes' walk away.
After a busy day of bartering in the Medina, you can relax on the hotel's roof terrace, which has views over the city, or take a dip in the swimming pool. There is also a private hammam and a treatment room with a range of spa therapies available, such as massages, facials and manicures (fees apply).
The restaurant serves Moroccan and European cuisine, including meat and vegetarian dishes. The hotel also offers Moroccan cooking classes (fees apply).
The intimate property has eight suites, all with traditional Moroccan interiors and air conditioning.
Note: Ramadan is 26 May-24 June, 2017. During this time, some of the shops and restaurants are closed or have reduced opening hours, and many do not sell or serve alcohol.
