"A wonderful overnight at Gibbon Bridge. The hotel is beautiful, with a stunning garden. The service was excellent and the food delicious. We were lucky to have glorious weather so we’re able to eat lunch on the terrace overlooking the garden."

Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Gibbon Bridge Hotel is "housed in a beautiful country estate" (National Geographic), with "lovely spacious rooms" and "eclectic architecture [that] includes gothic stonework from an old church".
  • The conservatory and restaurant have views of the garden & surrounding fells. You can relax in front of the fire with a pre-dinner drink in the bar or enjoy coffee on the garden terrace.
  • The Tolkien Trail is a 6-mile circular walking route that explores some of the countryside that served as inspiration for JRR Tolkien's world-famous novel The Lord of the Rings. The trail begins from the village of Hurst Green, which is a 15-minute drive from the hotel.
  • A hike to the top of Pendle Hill is classed among Countryfile's best walks in Lancashire, thanks to its far-reaching views and historic ties to the notorious witch trials of 1612. Its "brooding slopes" are 30 minutes' drive away.
  • Clitheroe is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Explore the ruinous keep of Clitheroe Castle and visit Holmes Mill, a fully renovated textiles mill that now houses a food and beer hall showcasing some of the region's finest local produce.
