The Mount Somerset Hotel & Spa is a Regency-era country-house hotel in the countryside near Taunton that has won awards and received wide acclaim from reviewers and hotel guides. It holds four AA Red Stars, which signify Inspectors' Choice status and are The AA's "supreme accolade" for hotels, and three Rosettes for its food, while the The Daily Telegraph praises the "attractive spacious bedrooms" and "cosy but well equipped spa".

Exmoor National Park is a 30-minute drive away, while the Somerset Levels and the Quantock Hills and Blackdown Hills Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are even closer. Glastonbury -- which is known for its ruined abbey and tor (a hill outside the town that is the centre of several Arthurian legends) -- and Wells Cathedral are both within an hour's drive.

With its high ceilings and sweeping staircase, Mount Somerset Hotel & Spa mixes Regency splendour with modern comforts. Despite the manor's generous size, there are only 19 guest rooms, creating an intimate feel. Décor features floral prints and plush velvet, while original antique furniture preserves a sense of the mansion’s history. Some bedrooms also feature roll-top baths.

There’s a gym and a modest Moroccan-style spa, decorated with mosaics and original ornaments from a traditional hammam. There's also a steam room, a sauna, a hydrotherapy bath and a foot spa. For the brave, there is also a kubel dusche -- an elevated bucket of ice-cold water. We have negotiated a spa package, including two treatments, and bubbly for £65 per person.

Wi-Fi is free throughout.

My only dissappointment was the hot tub we had in the room, whilst it worked we were unable to turn the temperature up or down. The views from the patio were nice if you could see them, from your hot tub, however you may not want to see the views as people were walking past with there dogs etc.,

The dinner was excellent and delicious. Highly recommend treating yourself to the chocolate box option and be brave and try some of the more odd sounding flavours.

I would only not recommend as the issue we faced didnt seem to be a one-off and so I wouldnt risk saying to someone else to stay there. I had specifically looked for a place to stay with a deep roll top bath ...not having a roomy bath at home this is something we really look forward to - relaxing in a deep bath....when we tried to run a bath the water was cold....we had friends in another room same issue...we reported it and after a while the solution offered was to go to a room at the end of the corridor to use the bathroom there...by this time there wasnt time to have a bath pre dinner so it was really disappointing ...even in the morning we still had no hot water and really the idea of trailing back and forth was not appealling...so had to boil kettle to get to wash with warm water ...so disappointing as the bathrooms are very plush so felt cheated of being able to enjoy them as without hot water its just not relaxing or enjoyable.

The Elan Spa treatments provided by Natasha were excellent and the standard of everything was exactly as we had hoped for. This Travelzoo deal, made this stay exceptionally good value, and we added an extra night without any difficulty. l

Hotel was elegant and staff were very friendly although obviously quite short staffed. Spa was good but due to location outside the hotel not ideal and facilities could only accommodate a few people at a time.
