The 16th-century Noel Arms, one of the oldest inns in the Cotswolds, is set in the pretty market town of Chipping Campden. This former coaching inn has a fascinating history and royal connections -- Charles II is rumoured to have stayed during the English Civil War -- and is a great base from which to explore the  Cotswolds. A short drive away are Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick castle, Blenheim Palace and Cheltenham.

The historic ambience is kept alive with fine antiques, original log fires and rich fabrics. There are 28 rooms in total, spread across the older part of the property and a modern annex. Expect tea- and coffee-making facilities and ensuite bathrooms with a shower or bath. One of the rooms features a carved 4-poster bed which dates back to 1657. In the morning, guests awake to a continental buffet, with a hot full English breakfast served at the table.

The restaurant menu is a mix of contemporary British fare and gourmet curries. Head Chef Indunil Upatissa has won the Best Curry Chef gong at the Great British Pub Awards for the last three years in a row, and "enthusiasts arrive for his Curry Club on the last Thursday evening of every month", says The AA Hotel Guide 2014, where dishes are £13.95 including a drink. There's also a little coffee shop open throughout the day, with al fresco tables on the patio.

Guests can use the spa at sister hotel Cotswold House Hotel & Spa, a 30-second walk away (a supplement applies). Facilities include six treatment rooms, an aromatic steam room, a hydrotherapy pool and a nail bar.

Nice enough hotel with good food. However staff all confused & ambivalent about Travelzoo deal. I've no idea whether we had an upgraded room but the £15 per person meal discount was not applied inspite of me enquiring during check in & when we ordered the food. When I queried the bill on check out I was given a single £15 discount, paid the bill then realised their mistake. I was refunded a further £15 when I pointed out this out. So be aware & don't take the Travelzoo excellent deal for granted!

Great that you can use the facilities of the sister hotel opposite - didn't use spa but gardens very beautiful with lots of private seating areas.

It's early days for electric cars but we had to ask if there were charging facilities. In fact there were at the sister hotel over the road. Maybe they could be a bit more up-front for us pioneers!
