Taking its cue from a classic New England summer house, Hotel J offers a stylish, nautical-themed stay on waterfront Nacka Strand. Part of the Stockholm Archipelago -- a cluster of 30,000 islands belonging to the municipality of Stockholm -- Nacka is a peaceful location from which to explore the city, but is well connected by ferry.
An upscale property with its own jetty, the hotel is spread between an elegant redbrick building dating from 1912 and a contemporary annex. Stockholm city centre takes 20 minutes to reach by car or 25 minutes via ferry, and both Nyckelviken nature reserve and Svindersvik, an 18th-century Rococo country house, are around 10 minutes’ drive away. The hotel has views of Stockholm Harbour and Djurgarden island, which has a wealth of historic buildings.
Hotel J's interiors have a "breezy, blue-and-white Hamptons vibe" (Lonely Planet). There are two lounges to choose from: an elegant salon with an ornate fireplace, and a chic, white-painted space with star-patterned fabrics. Restaurant J, a couple of minutes' walk from the hotel on the waterfront, serves seafood and brasserie-style dishes. The dining room's white-painted wood and blue-and-white fabrics continue the nautical theme, and there's a terrace for al fresco seaside dining. The hotel's garden goes down to the water, and has tables and chairs where you can enjoy a waterside drink.
Rooms feature wooden floors and striped fabrics. All offer balconies with garden, harbour or sea views, as well as free Wi-Fi, flatscreen TVs and mini bars. Higher-category rooms add roof terraces and sitting areas with sofabeds, while split-level suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea.
