The Shankly Hotel
Why We Love This Hotel
- The hotel featured in The Daily Telegraph's guide to the world's best football-themed hotels
- There's a treasure trove of Liverpool FC and Bill Shankly memorabilia
- Many popular city-centre attractions are within walking distance
This city centre hotel is dedicated to Bill Shankly, the celebrated Scottish footballer and Liverpool FC manager. The smart and contemporary interiors feature photos and video footage of Shankly, plus a treasure trove of memorabilia, including items from his sporting career.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area, while Albert Dock, home to waterfront attractions including Tate Liverpool, is about 15 minutes' walk from the hotel. The lively Ropewalks area, known for its cafés, late-night bars and clubs, is 10 minutes' walk away.
Back at the hotel, the light and airy Bastion Bar & Restaurant is popular with locals and visitors alike. It's home to the Shankly Museum with its array of sporting memorabilia. By day, the restaurant serves afternoon tea and a lunchtime menu including sandwiches, soups, burgers, fish and chips and more. There's an à la carte evening menu and you can enjoy a cocktail or your favourite tipple at the bar.
Rooms have free Wi-Fi and Jacuzzi baths. They're decorated with a subdued colour palette of chocolate, gold and beige tones and many of them have Bill Shankly-related stories printed in oversized text on the ceilings. There are also studios with kitchenettes.
