Situated in the Welsh hills with views of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, this elegant country-house hotel offers a peaceful base from which to explore the nearby city and the surrounding countryside. Now a Grade-II listed building, the hotel was originally built as a manor house for a wealthy landowner in the 18th century.
Popular city-centre attractions such as Cardiff Castle, which has a history spanning 2,000 years, are about a 15-minute drive from the hotel, as are the shops and eateries of St David's, a large shopping centre that houses around 200 stores. It's possible to take a train to the city centre from Lisvane & Thornhill station, which is around 1.5 miles from the hotel.
Back at the hotel, Sequoias Restaurant, named after a giant sequoia tree in the grounds that's said to be one of the largest in Wales, serves a seasonally changing menu that uses fresh local ingredients where possible.
The 37 bedrooms are individually decorated and some have period features such as sash windows with views of the grounds and countryside.
