Situated on a hillside that slopes down to the sea, the Hesperia Lanzarote feels intimate and exclusive, even when fully booked. There are four pools, a spa, three restaurants and numerous sports facilities.
There’s a shale beach 10 minutes’ walk away, although there is direct access. If you’re looking to relax on the sand, the Papagayo Beaches are 30 minutes away by car. Timanfaya National Park and its volcanoes are a 15-minute drive away. Puerto Calero marina, with its shops, bars and restaurants, is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. It’s a peaceful area, three miles from the livelier Puerto del Carmen.
Back at the resort, the four outdoor pools are surrounded by sun beds and manicured gardens. There’s a mini club to keep children entertained, plus tennis, volleyball and squash courts. A small charge applies to use the spa, which has a sauna, hot tubs and a steam room, and treatments are available -- the volcanic lava ritual comes highly recommended.
The buffet restaurant serves a lavish breakfast and dinner. The other two on-site options for dinner are the family-friendly Mediterranean restaurant El Risco and La Caleta, which overlooks the water and is perfect for al fresco dining. Reservations are required for both.
All of the 335 bedrooms have terraces and most have sea views. There’s free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and tiled floors throughout. Upgrade to a suite for a large Jacuzzi bath and walk-in shower. Children will be impressed by some of the family rooms, which come with fun extras such as wigwams and telescopes.
