"Good comfortable rooms, helpful staff, excellent breakfast. The location was great for visiting Hever Castle, Knowles; the only criticism of the location is that we were unable to walk to local pubs etc as there are no pavements along the local roads."

Overview

Hever Hotel is in the Kent village of Hever -- known for its picturesque Tudor properties. The hotel is a 5-minute drive from the double-moated childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Hever Castle, which was built in the 13th century. Rich with Tudor artwork and furniture, it also has gardens, a lake, a woodland walk and a maze to explore.

The hotel is on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is full of nature reserves and hiking trails. Chartwell, the former home of Winston Churchill and now a National Trust property, is around 10 minutes' drive from the hotel. Hever Castle Golf Club, which has hosted PGA EuroPro Tour events, is next to the property.

The hotel has a main bar, an upstairs piano bar and a games room with a pool table. Breakfast and dinner are served in the Stables Restaurant, which has a rustic feel, with wooden beams and pillars. The hotel also has a gym, a tennis court and a games room.

Rooms have free Wi-Fi and views of the hotel's grounds.

The setting is lovely, probably better in the summer months, the one disadvantage is that the rooms are in the grounds and away from the main restaurant so if it is raining, not good. The restaurant is of a good standard but a limited dinner menu if you are staying more than two night. I used the spa because I got a 25% discount but otherwise it is quite expensive. Overall it’s in a good location for Hever Castle and surrounding National Trust places. A very enjoyable weekend.

We enjoyed our visit save for our room (78) which had low sloping ceilings in part which we both banged our heads on more than once. it had only one bedside table & lamp (there was room for two). We both like to read in bed so had to use a chair for a bedside table instead, and the lamp from the dressing table. Apart from this we had a good stay and the food was very good.

The Guest WiFi did not work for me but the Hotel gave me the password for their WiFi which worked fine.

Breakfast and dinner were good. The staff on our second night were more understanding and empathetic.

My sister booked an accessible room. The shower flooded the bathroom and ran into the bedroom which had a wooden floor. This was dangerous as my sister has limited mobility. The floor urgent needed retiling.

I had phoned the hotel to ask if they could give us a twin room as my wife had a broken arm. Our thanks to Charlotte for arranging a room that allowed us both to get a great nights sleep.
