Tommy Jacks Beach Hotel is a laid-back beach retreat in Bude, a "dreamy kind of spot" (The Guardian) with pretty coves and gorse-covered downs on the north Cornwall coast. The surf-themed hotel scored the Cornwall New Opening prize in The Sunday Times's list of the Ultimate 100 British Hotels: Budget for providing "a vivid slice of seaside at a fraction of the usual cost".
The hotel neighbours Bude and North Cornwall Golf Course, a couple of minutes' walk from Crooklets Beach on the outskirts of Bude. It is a 15-minute walk from the town centre, where you'll find the Castle heritage centre, and a 10-minute walk from Summerleaze Beach, which offers a wide stretch of sand and a 1930s sea pool, named one of Britain's best lidos and outdoor pools by The Daily Telegraph in 2016. Walkers can take on the South West Coast Path, which runs through the town, or head for the Planekeepers Path -- a 10-mile circular walk along the canal from Bude to Hobbacott, returning via Stratton.
Sea Jacks Restaurant at the hotel serves family favourites, like stone-baked pizzas, burgers, burritos and taco-bowl salads. It's open daily for dinner, and for lunch too on Saturday and Sunday. There is also a pub on site, and the hotel brews its own beer. Kids get sea-themed activity sheets, and there are three fish tanks to examine. Created in partnership with the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, they replicate the conditions in the Amazon, mangrove forests and Cornish rock pools.
The hotel's 20 bedrooms have a cheery nautical theme and free Wi-Fi. Standard Double rooms have king-size beds, and are larger than the Small but Lovable Double rooms.
