This fairytale country house hotel is set in a 5-hectare natural park with its own vineyards, making it a romantic base from which to explore the surrounding countryside and nearby towns. It's in the village of Edesheim, just a short drive from Edenkoben, a picturesque town on the German Wine Route. The restaurants and bars of Landau are around 10 kilometres from the hotel, while Neustadt's shopping streets and historic old town are about a 20-minute drive away.
Nearby places of interest include the Villa Ludwigshöhe (a former summer home of King Ludwig I of Bavaria), which is on the edge of the Palatinate Forest, a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Not far from this stately residence is the lower station of the Rietburg chairlift, which runs to the medieval castle ruins of Rietburg. If you fancy a drink with a view, there's also a pub at the top -- it has an outdoor terrace overlooking the Rhine Plain.
Back at the hotel, facilities include a sauna and a fine-dining restaurant with a terrace and an open fireplace. The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine with an emphasis on fresh seasonal dishes that use local ingredients. The menu is complemented by fine wines (including a selection from local wineries) from the well-stocked castle cellar. Restaurant booking is recommended.
The classically decorated rooms and suites have marble bathrooms and Italian furniture. They have views of the grounds and the tranquil surroundings. There is also an apartment in a converted stable within the castle grounds, just a short walk from the main hotel.
