Why We Love It

  • The Pavilion Restaurant holds two AA Rosettes
  • Facilities at the hotel include a spa, a gym and two golf courses
  • Lewes, famous for its castle, is 15 minutes' drive; Brighton is around 40 minutes' drive away

East Sussex National is around 10 minutes' drive from the South Downs National Park (an International Dark Sky Reserve) and the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making the hotel a great base from which to explore their rolling hills and bustling market towns.

Brighton is 40 minutes' drive away. Lewes, which has a Norman castle, is 15 minutes' drive; you can also visit Anne of Cleves's house, which was given to her by Henry VIII as part of their divorce settlement. The historic town of Battle, where the Battle of Hastings took place in 1066, is approximately 40 minutes' drive away.

East Sussex National was recently awarded four AA Silver Stars, an accolade given to properties offering a superior level of quality in hospitality, service and cleanliness.

The Pavilion Restaurant has two AA Rosettes and serves a collection of dishes prepared with ingredients sourced from local suppliers. The Hunnington Restaurant and Ryder Bar & Terrace is in the golf club house and serves traditional home cooking, light lunches and sandwiches. The Sussex Lounge has outdoor seating in the gardens or on the balcony terrace.

Club Rooms have Wi-Fi and private balconies overlooking the golf course.

The health club offers aerobics classes (supplements apply) and its facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a spa pool, a sauna, and steam room and a gym. Horsted Spa has an aromatherapy room, a monsoon shower, a Jacuzzi, a steam room, a sauna and a relaxation room. Massages and exfoliation treatments are available at a supplement but there is limited availability in the spa on weekends and treatments should be pre-booked. There are also two golf courses: the East Course and West Course.

Comfortable and spacious room
Other Comments
The 2-course dinner was dismal. Restricted menu and both main and dessert were very cheaply made.

Disappointed that there was a special limited menu for those on travel zoo vouchers.surely it would have been better to choose off full menu with supplements if necessary.

Everything else was brilliant , lovely room and views, excellent breakfast and evening meal.Beautifully clean everywhere , very polite and smart staff?.What a pity to spoil it all with such a rowdy group
Other Comments
During the evening meal they had a very large party of mostly men who were incredibly noisy and disruptive in their behavour. The noise was so loud that we could hardly hear ourselves speak let alone be able to talk with some very nice people on the table adjacent to us .It was most surprising that such a large group were not sited in a private room where they would not disrupt others
