Smooth, bright adobe buildings and red-tile roofs pop on the background of a mountain range running east and west behind the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa. The historic resort was built in the pristine beauty of rural land, and has since earned distinctions as a Gold List Hotel from Conde Nast Traveler (2014) and a Travel + Leisure World’s Best Hotel (2014). It’s played host to politicians and celebrities alike, and serves as an ideal romantic retreat for couples, while also being a great getaway spot for families.

Start your day off at Oak Grill with breakfast selections like brioche French toast, a three-egg omelette and fresh-squeezed orange juice. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner, and guests dining alfresco can take in views of the 200-year-old oak trees surrounding the area. There are additional dining and cocktail-sipping options on site.

Whether your interests lie in outdoor activities or an art class, the resort delivers in spades. Swing clubs at the Golf Course at Ojai Valley, included in the Top 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America by Golf Digest Magazine (2012). Be sure to schedule a treatment at Spa Ojai, designated as a Top 100 Resort Spa in the U.S. in 2014 by Conde Nast Traveler. The indigenous Kuyam treatment and sauna pay homage to the Native American culture, and other treatments like the four-hand massage and deep cleansing facial are designed to balance mind and body.

After a day on the golf course or relaxing at the spa, kick back in guest room with 300-count Egyptian cotton bedding and cosy bathrobes. Guest rooms were renovated in 2013 and are now equipped with audio/video plug-in multimedia stations with USB ports.

Guests are responsible for a $25 nightly resort fee, which covers sought-after amenities such as valet or self-parking, fitness classes and fitness centre access, Wi-Fi access and tennis court usage.

Check in and billing was unacceptable. Between the bel desk and the golf shop they misplaced my wife's golf shoes and she had to play the 1st four holes in her tennis shoes.
