"Arrived Friday 20 03 20 just as Boris announced Pubs and alikes had to close ASAP - thankfully the Hotel remained fully open on Friday for guest who did travel as it appeared alot had sadly cancelled - room 31 down in the annex building big spacious comfy - needed to let the oil heater take the chill off the room but thats the norm at this hotel in the annex buildings . bar was open but just a hand full of locals and guests due to the Virus situation - after a couple of wet ones headed to restaurant for our evening meal , sadly the Lamb dish has been removed from the main courses but the duck and steak went down well as did the starters and deserts - BRING BACK THE LAMB is what i would instruct Chef to do , a few more wet ones and it was bunk time on the super sized bed , breakfast was the same as normal a good variety for all tastes - lets just hope the Virus and Public dont let places like Riverdale fall by the way side in these torrid times - hope to return on the Travelzoo Deal when times are better 2020/2021 and see the help full staff once more"

Overview

Built in 1866 and later used as a shooting lodge, Riverdale Hall Hotel is in rural Northumberland. It's a short riverside walk from the market town of Bellingham, a well-known stop on the Pennine Way. There are long walks that start and finish at Bellingham, making it the perfect place for a restorative cup of tea and cake (or a celebratory pint).

Northumberland National Park -- a "natural wonderland", according to Lonely Planet -- is a short drive away. Kielder Water and Forest Park, home to Northern Europe's largest artificial lake and England's largest forest, is around 25 minutes' drive away.

Hexham Abbey, in the market town of Hexham, and Hadrian's Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are both within 35 minutes' drive of the hotel. Cragside, the first house in the world to be powered by hydroelectricity, is 45 minutes' drive away; this National Trust property was described as "a wonder of its age" by Jeremy Paxman in his book The Victorians.

The hotel restaurant serves dishes made with local produce such as lamb, game and cheeses. There is also a lounge with views of the River North Tyne, and a bar with open fires.

Facilities at the hotel include an indoor swimming pool and a sauna. You can also play on the hotel's cricket field or on the 18-hole golf course (fees apply). The hotel can help you to arrange mountain biking, canoeing, sailing or waterskiing in the area.

The River North Tyne, which runs by the hotel, is known for its salmon and trout, and guests can hire fishing equipment at an additional cost.

Rooms have free Wi-Fi. Superior rooms are generally south-facing, with views across the grounds towards the river. Some have balconies and small patio areas.

Food was great, drinks reasonable, good wine list, all staff pleasant, nice room with lovely view. Downside - pool experience disappointing (water cold, whole area looked shabby, sauna not hot (not advised it wasn't on?)). Shower / water in our bathroom cold on the evening.
