"Couldn't find the remote control for the TV so we were upgraded to a better room. Had a meal in the restaurant on the first night which was very good. Car parking was available. Not far to walk for buses into Liverpool centre."

Set in a grand villa that was once the home of a wealthy merchant, the Hallmark Hotel Liverpool Sefton Park is a 41-room hotel with views of leafy Sefton Park.

It is three miles from Liverpool's buzzing Albert Dock and waterfront attractions, making it a good option for visitors wanting a more sedate base from which to explore. The city centre is around 10 minutes away by taxi or 20 minutes by bus from Croxteth Road, less than 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.

The 235-acre, Grade I-listed Sefton Park has a Victorian palm house and a boating lake. The park's playground and lakeside café are popular draws for families. Lark Lane -- "one of Merseyside's most popular areas of trendy bars and restaurants" (Liverpool Echo) -- is less than 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.

The Hallmark Grill, the hotel's contemporary restaurant, has exposed brick walls and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the park, and offers a brasserie-style menu. There's also a bar that opens onto a decked terrace. It serves a separate menu of light bites and dishes such as salads and burgers.

All bedrooms have free Wi-Fi. Some have high ceilings and beautifully proportioned large windows in keeping with the architectural style of the building.

Very helpful staff. Initially I was told that a room upgrade was not possible but when I asked later we were given an upgrade. The facilities were good but the deco was a bit shabby in places. The staff were friendly. Our stay was restful and the hotel was conveniently located.

Closeness to wonderful park. Breakfast OK. Friendly staff.

Rooms especially need attention; our door, toilet, TV. Staff seemed overworked.

Location - it was right next to beautiful Sefton Park and we really appreciated the view, the peace and the park itself.

After our visits to the Albert Docks area, it was nice to come back to a quiet location. Hotel is within easy reach of local buses to travel to Docks area. And Sephton Park is an enjoyable Park to visit with a variety of alternative eating places within a 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel. Unexpected extra free drinks because of declining daily housekeeping need, which helps their carbon foot print.

Did take advantage one evening of the specially priced evening meal but were disappointed with the slow service. No complaints against the waiter and waitress themselves, as we saw them seeking to cope with the demands of the restaurant, public bar and room service. Thus there did not seem to be enough staff to cope, which we did complaint about. In fact, our complaint was efficiently addressed and we received some compensation. However, it will not stop us visitng the Hotel again, especially as all the staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely welcome, we were given an upgraded room with a four poster bed and a nice large bathroom. The windows, curtains and furniture were all past their sell by date but apart from the rattling sash windows which kept me awake we loved the room . The bedding was lovely and clean .

Lovely location, enjoyed the park opposite and easy enough to get the bus into Liverpool city. The breakfast included in our price was very tasty but the staff seemed under pressure and cooked items ran out as did plates. Pity no yoghurt to have with my fruit. Because of the breakfast experience we didn't risk eating in the restaurant at night as it was quite pricy .However for the money we paid for our bed and breakfast break we thought it was a lovely two night stay. thank you.
