Why We Love This Hotel
- Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel is a former hunting lodge perched high above Lake Windermere. Built in the Arts and Crafts style, it has steep gables, mullioned windows, and decorative woodwork.
- The property's restaurant featured in The Trip with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. Five-course tasting and à la carte menus are on offer, along with unspoilt lake views.
- Individually decorated bedrooms are split across the main house and The Lodge. You can choose between a room with views of the fells and views of Windermere (supplements apply).
- The hotel is a great base from which to explore the local area. It's halfway between Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside, and the town of Windermere is around five minutes away.
- Dove Cottage, where poet William Wordsworth lived from 1799–1808, is 15 minutes' drive away. You can take a guided tour of the house and gardens, and visit The Wordsworth Museum.
- A huge choice of walking routes is available in the Lakes. For a great view spanning the length of Windermere, hike up to Orrest Head. You can begin the trail in Windermere, close to the railway station.
