"Great family-friendly atmosphere in the main lobby with access to board games which was nice. The pool was great but on the cold side, one of the jacuzzis was broken, & the sauna in the women’s changing room was closed. This was really disappointing as, in the off season, the pool is the main activity."

Overview

Sitting on the Ottawa River, this CAA 4-Diamond hotel is the world's largest log structure. The centrepiece is the impressive hexagonal rotunda with a 19-metre stone fireplace.

Founded in 1930, this rustic hotel is still beaming with charm. From the sprawling grounds to the chalet-inspired decor of small but comfortable rooms, Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello is memorable inside and out.

On-site dining options vary; fine dining at Aux Chantignoles for breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. There's also the Bistro La Seigneurie, which is open daily from 5:30-11 p.m., and serves up bistro fare and cocktails.

The hotel's spa has registered massage therapists and offers treatments such as maple sugar body scrubs and green blanket body wraps. Guests can also relax around the fireplace in the Salon La Clairiere. Adjacent, the 23-metre indoor heated pool is encompassed by red cedar logs and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The resort has a host of activities included in the $31.04 inclusive of tax per night resort fee, ranging from stand-up paddle boarding and pedal boating in the warmer months to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. There's also mini golf and tons of family-friendly fun, like on-site movie nights on weekends.

Our stay was lovely, with the restaurant/dining room definitely being the highlight. The quality of service, and the outstanding flavours of the food was a definite 10!
Other Comments
The one suggestion I would have, is to consider having a wing of bedrooms for adults only, During our stay there were many many children running around being children- and very noisy. Totally acceptable in the pool area, and the fireplace/foyer area but not as welcomed in the bedrooms area. We were woken up quite early to the sound of a screaming child running through the hallway. We were not pleased with this.

We love this hotel and the old charm. We prefer the non renovated rooms to the updated ones. The beautiful fireplaces are a must. The staff and food was amazing and we look forward to bring our kids here.

We enjoyed walking to and exploring the town. The walking paths around the grounds are beautiful. The colours of the leaves were absolutely stunning. It was a glorious day. We also loved the pool, hot tub and saunas- although the one in the woman’s change room was difficult to operate. I had to ask for assistance. We had a fantastic meal at the steakhouse-excellent food and stellar service. We loved sitting in the lobby and just drinking in the ambience of the place. The history and the majesty of scale of the building, the fireplaces in the center. It’s something you can’t experience anywhere else.
Other Comments
I realize that This is an old building, so mod/cons shouldn’t be expected to compare to new hotels. But, we found the heat in our room a bit oppressive. We kept a window open. The plumbing didn’t work quite as well either, eg the toilet flushing. Also, the mini fridge wasn’t plugged in and didn’t work that well once it was plugged in. But theses minor details aside, we really enjoyed our stay.

The room was so dry that I awoke with a bad headache and incredible sinus pain - suppose to be a wonderful anniversary gift for my partner :((

Wonderful! Hotel, even though it is renovated is old. Sound proofing not great. Floors above badly creak and person on phone next room felt like she was right beside us. Food good but not exceptional. Still setting beautiful and staff terrific, so would go back.
