  • Historic CAA 4-Diamond cedar log cabin, host to royalty and celebrities
  • On-site activities abound for all seasons, including cross country and curling in the winter, canoeing and cycling in the summer, and indoor tennis and hiking all year

Sitting on the Ottawa River, this CAA 4-Diamond hotel is the world's largest log structure. The centrepiece is the impressive hexagonal rotunda with a 19-metre stone fireplace.

Founded in 1930, this rustic hotel is still beaming with charm. From the sprawling grounds to the chalet-inspired decor of small but comfortable rooms, Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello is memorable inside and out.

On-site dining options vary; fine dining at Aux Chantignoles for breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. There's also the Bistro La Seigneurie, which is open daily from 5:30-11 p.m., and serves up bistro fare and cocktails.

The hotel's spa has registered massage therapists and offers treatments such as maple sugar body scrubs and green blanket body wraps. Guests can also relax around the fireplace in the Salon La Clairiere. Adjacent, the 23-metre indoor heated pool is encompassed by red cedar logs and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The resort has a host of activities included in the $34.01 inclusive of tax per night resort fee, ranging from stand-up paddle boarding and pedal boating in the warmer months to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. There's also mini golf and tons of family-friendly fun, like on-site movie nights on weekends.

Disappointed that our room felt old and tired. Could use new carpeting and refinish the furniture (do not replace, it adds to the atmosphere). Our sink and tub did not drain completely.

Great available activities for the family. The service is exceptional. Meals are very expensive onsite but very good.

The atmosphere overall.

They have recently changed their dinner menu in the dining room from a table d’hote to a steak house set up. The food was very over priced and disappointing. In the past we haven’t minded spending more for a nice dinner in the dining room and have enjoyed the table d’hote menu for years. We were very surprised at how significant the price change was and how the quality of the food and the experience didn’t match this increase in price.

Enjoyed the pool and hiking trails,. Wait staff in restaurant over worked and therefore slow service.

The bathroom was tiny, musty smelling and had mold in the tub area. We were very much looking forward to using the outdoor pool but we’re not permitted in due to overcrowding. Although the main dining room has a dress policy the father of a family with two whiny little girls were seated next to us. He was wearing bathing trunks, a tank top and flip flops. We were not impressed. Food and drinks are expensive and the added resort fee seems like gouging especially since we couldn’t use the pool. Also, check in is late...4:00 pm which left us with very little time to explore the grounds due to our one night stay.

The standard rooms are dark and not updated. Bathroom old, mismatched toilet tub, toilet seat won't stay up, small size etc. Just so you know ahead of time.
