Why We Love This Hotel

  • The hotel, which was once the home of prime minister Stanley Baldwin, is set in 23 acres of "attractive grounds" (The AA)
  • There is a gym, outdoor tennis courts and a restaurant with a terrace
  • Worcester, with its 11th-century cathedral, galleries and many Georgian and Tudor buildings, is 20 minutes' drive away

Hallmark Hotel Stourport Manor, a country house that was once the home of former prime minister Stanley Baldwin, is set in 23 acres of gardens on the edge of Stourport-on-Severn -- an inland port town built in the mid-1700s, where the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal meets the River Severn.

Kidderminster, where you can board a steam train on the Severn Valley Railway, is 15 minutes' drive away. The timber-framed Tudor buildings and Georgian architecture of Worcester are 20 minutes' drive from the hotel. You can visit the 11th-century cathedral to see its royal tombs, including that of King John, and medieval cloisters.

West Midland Safari Park -- which is home to around 600 animals and has a drive-through safari, plus rides and attractions for children -- is 15 minutes' drive away, as is the Wyre Forest.

The hotel's facilities include a leisure club with an indoor swimming pool, a sauna and a poolside Jacuzzi, as well as a gym, a squash court, tennis courts and a 9-hole footgolf course.

The restaurant serves a brasserie-style menu of British classics and international cuisine. There's a terrace for al fresco dining, and a bar and lounge with a separate menu of light bites.

Classic Rooms are split between the modern building and the original Victorian house. Executive Rooms are all in the original Victorian house and Family Rooms are all in the modern building. Wi-Fi is free.

Unfortunately dinner on the second night was a bit disappointing as several items on the menu were unavailable. Otherwise the food was pretty good. Our bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor was very clean and the water was very hot. The shower though needs to be modernised.

My only complaint would be our bedroom was very dark, only had a small window, the sill was level with the bridge of my nose!! Food was very good, staff were helpful & polite.

In desperate need of refurbishment. Need to re-think the breakfast provision, especially coffee (one automated machine, long queues).

Overall stay fine, restaurant food OK one member of staff forgot a drinks order and generally seemed to not care. All others were good.

Hotel was fine. Bar unattended (staff busy) so longish wait for service. Locality disappointing but fine if happy to drive to better places e.g. Bawdily.

They appeared to be understaffed. Queued to book in, queued to book out, slow service for dinner, bar service so slow I needed a drink whilst I waited for a drink!
Other Comments
I do not blame the staff as they did their best but this hotel definitely needs to address the staffing level.

The hotel was excellent, the food was first class, the only downside was they were very short staffed in the restaurant so we were waiting a long time between courses

Very enjoyable stay in this comfortable friendly hotel. Our superior room was spotlessly clean with a large comfortable room with very spacious shower room. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the hotel has the added bonus of spa, gym and heated indoor swimming pool. Well positioned and excellent value.
Other Comments
The only down side was that the restaurant menu doesn’t change..and there is only one fish option, so we decided to go out to eat the second evening.
