Overview

The original Victorian part of this 72-room hotel was once the home of former prime minister Stanley Baldwin. It's set in 23 acres of gardens on the edge of Stourport-on-Severn -- an inland port town built in the mid-1700s where the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal meets the River Severn -- and is 15 minutes' drive from Kidderminster.

The timber-framed Tudor buildings and Georgian architecture of Worcester are 20 minutes' drive from the hotel. You can visit the 11th-century cathedral to see the royal tombs and medieval cloisters.

West Midland Safari Park -- which is home to around 600 animals and has a drive-through safari, and rides and attractions for children -- is 15 minutes' drive, as is the Wyre Forest.

This hotel has plenty of facilities to keep guests occupied. There is a leisure club with an indoor swimming pool, a sauna and a poolside Jacuzzi, as well as a gym, a squash court and tennis courts.

The restaurant serves a brasserie-style menu of British classics and international cuisine. There's a terrace for al fresco dining, and a bar and lounge with a separate menu of light bites.

A few of the bedrooms are in the original Victorian house, but most are in a modern building. All rooms have free Wi-Fi. Superior doubles have additional features including separate lounge areas.

Some of the service in the restaurant was very poor which let down an otherwise excellent staff - reception was warm and considerate, cleaner friendly and thoughtful and one young man in the restaurant was efficient and informative. When the poor service (over 2 days as we always wait to see if this was “one of those blips” which can occur) reception was most apologetic and appeared sincere. On our return home the Operations Manager, Drew, phoned to follow up our report and sounded devastated at the information. For these reasons we would return again to Stourport Manor and give the restaurant another chance..

Rather faded. Furniture and dining room basic. The chairs and carpet in the dining room were a dreadful match. The food was unexceptional- a somewhat underdone pork chop: tough salmon. Christmas decorations were poor. I’d rather not have any than a short twist of tinsel round the odd pillar.

The staff were really friendly and the food was good. It was a very good value offer.
Other Comments
Most of the rooms are in an additional wing which is not very special (nothing like the lovely old building in the picture) and is showing signs of wear and tear.

We had room service at dinner and it was very prompt and served by two very polite waitresses
Other Comments
Initial reception was poor. Breakfast was a shambles! In other hotels with a buffet, tea and toast is always served at the table. We were expected to not only queue for our cooked breakfast (they ran out of bacon and we had to wait for replenishments), but also to queue for toast, then join another queue for tea. As there were members of a coach party hogging both these, we decided just to eat our breakfast and leave! Very disappointing!
