Hallmark Hotel Stourport Manor, a country house that was once the home of former prime minister Stanley Baldwin, is set in 23 acres of gardens on the edge of Stourport-on-Severn -- an inland port town built in the mid-1700s, where the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal meets the River Severn.
Kidderminster, where you can board a steam train on the Severn Valley Railway, is 15 minutes' drive away. The timber-framed Tudor buildings and Georgian architecture of Worcester are 20 minutes' drive from the hotel. You can visit the 11th-century cathedral to see its royal tombs, including that of King John, and medieval cloisters.
West Midland Safari Park -- which is home to around 600 animals and has a drive-through safari, plus rides and attractions for children -- is 15 minutes' drive away, as is the Wyre Forest.
The hotel's facilities include a leisure club with an indoor swimming pool, a sauna and a poolside Jacuzzi, as well as a gym, a squash court, tennis courts and a 9-hole footgolf course.
The restaurant serves a brasserie-style menu of British classics and international cuisine. There's a terrace for al fresco dining, and a bar and lounge with a separate menu of light bites.
Classic Rooms are split between the modern building and the original Victorian house. Executive Rooms are all in the original Victorian house and Family Rooms are all in the modern building. Wi-Fi is free.

The only minor comment is that the breakfast buffet needs to be regularly refreshed, ideally less food on display but freshly cooked ingredients regularly added rather than plenty of food which is left under the heat for too long.

Nice hotel friendly staff and good swimming experience
Hardly a gastronomic delight though - menus a bit unimaginative and 'pubby'
Also breakfasts are 'self -service ' in all senses of the word to an unbelievable degree. I have never stayed in a hotel where I have you had to make my own tea before. Disagreeable experience which might deer my staying in future.

Did not like having bathroom downstairs from our bedroom and it was cold. The meal in the restaurant was very disappointing. We both had the bruschetta to start and the bread was wet, soggy and tasteless and the risotto was like mushy baby food. We sent the risotto back and after 20mins the replacement one was better but we had lost our appetite by then. All in all the experience was not good and we would not recommend it to anyone.

This hotel is in a great location and has very good facilities. It's excellent value for money. The only criticism is that the extensions onto the original Manor lack any architectural sympathy for the original building. However, I would definitely recommend this hotel as the staff were friendly and the food was good.

The Manor was situated in lovely grounds with tennis courts, fitness centre with small pool & jacuzzi . The bedrooms available in the Travel Zoo deal were in an annexe but this was attached to the main building. We were on the second floor and had pleasant views. The rooms were a good size and well furnished. They were scrupulously clean. There isn't a lift to the second floor, whilst this was not a problem to us, it would be a problem for guests with mobility problems. The evening meal had a fixed menu with three options for each of the three courses. We paid a small supplement for extras. The food was absolutely lovely, our steaks were beautifully cooked to our specific requests. The starter and dessert were equally nice and a bottle of wine ( house ) was included . All the staff without exception, were friendly and helpful. My husband and I are planning to visit again soon.

As the hotel is situated on a hill & is approximately 1.5 miles from the centre of Stourport, a car might be an advantage for some guests. Hartlebury Common is more or less opposite the hotel and there are lots of walking paths ( clearly named) . We were fortunate to have glorious weather and we walked down to the River Severn path and Stourport was within easy reach.

The staff were pleasant and helpful as they could be but there weren't enough to cater for a well booked hotel. The evening meal was served very slowly. Dining at 7pm we had our desert served at 9.30pm. Everyone was complaining about the very slow service. Also on the second night there was only one barman to serve drinks for a large wedding group staying over for the celebration next day. He also was required to pour drinks for everyone ordering in the restaurant which was quite full also. Load noises from the party goers disturbed sleep for many other guests at 2330 and even 0400. I was third in line to check out and the two gentlemen ahead of me were quite upset and demanded the name of the manager to complain to when they arrived back home. Overall, I was not impressed and will never return.

We could not book a table for the evening meal until 8:15. Our order was eventually taken at 8:40. Wine was delivered without glasses. First course arrived 8:55 and 3rd course arrived at 10 pm. Staff shortage in the kitchen we were told. Breakfast was no better even thought it was buffet style. They didn’t replenish anything until asked several times. People were queuing because there were no plates, milk, eggs and multiple other items. Tables were cleared by customers. This was a totally poorly managed restaurant.
Even when we asked to see the restaurant manager he didn’t arrive before we left the restaurant.

It was busy with a wedding on Friday and preparing for another on Saturday, so the hotel was full. However there were not enough bar and waiting staff. They were very pleasant and helpful but not proactive, seeing what needed to be done to avoid the complaints they were getting. The swimming pool had an outdoor hosepipe pumping hot water into it, the steam room wasn't working neither was the jacuzzi.
None of the above spoiled our enjoyment though.

The evening meals were not what one would expect at a 4star hotel. The first evening I had the vegetarian curry (lentil, cauliflower and butternut squash) which was not served hot, very watery, contained 3xpieces butternut, about 6xlentils but loads of tasteless cauliflower.
The second meal - the soup was tepid, and we both sent our lasagne back as it was not hot all the way through, the center was lukewarm.
I'm afraid we were not impressed.

We were given a very large ground floor room as we had our dog with us- so plenty of room for his bed! We were also able to walk him in the grounds and they have dog poo bins. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. They do gluten free cereal ( had to ask) and bread/rolls and offer gluten-free options on the main menu but it is limited so we only had one evening meal. They had also run out of items as they had had two weddings at the weekend and were waiting for an order which arrived on Wednesday. As they have coach parties staying I would have thought they could have organised a delivery sooner!! Breakfast is very much do it all yourself and cooked food is tepid but the handles of the tongs are red hot!!

The food was lovely but we felt your link to the menu was misleading as on the deal we had a selection to choose from ( a separate menu) which was fine and we were happy with our choices. However we had browsed the menu on the link - we appreciate not everything would have been available on such a good deal. This was unnecessary as we couldn’t order from the full menu. Not a problem for us but some people may complain to you or the hotel .

We booked a night away for my wife's birthday. The offer of dinner B&B in a hotel that accepted dogs was a good one to take up. The hotel is set in lovely grounds and we enjoyed strolling around there. The 'sap' is a pool, coolish jacuzzi and steam room/ sauna. The steam room was a bit cold! We were given the room next to the fire escape so that we could easily get our dogs out for a pee (etc). The convenience was great but I wouldn't do that again as it was quite a noisy place to be (at night the staff crashed about putting the laundry trolleys out and then the laundry van driver crashed about first thing in the morning to collect that and drop off the new stuff).

Breakfasts - Fine. Dinners - Fine. Staff were all most helpful and friendly. Swimming Pool - Most welcome in the hot and humid weather. Our Bedroom - The beds were comfortable and the bedding cosy. The TV was good. The room generally was showing its age as was the bathroom and both could do with refitting with modern facilities. Within the public areas of the hotel there were many examples of poor attention to cleaning and suggesting that the cleaners may be overstretched or lacking in guidance from management. One example of unhygienic practice arose when an assistant to the bar staff was delivering drinks to the dining room from his tray: he held beer glasses from above with his fingers around the rims. This was noticed, too, by another diner who also felt compelled to carefully wipe the rim of his glass and commented how we had both been disappointed by that service. Yes, I would come again and I would enjoy all the good things once more, but also expect to see improvements in the areas mentioned.

Checkin Was from 3pm, we arrived at 4:10 to be told our room was in use by a day guest until 5pm! They asked if we would wait .........shocking! We downgraded to a classic room which ok but I was looking forwarding to treating my partner to a superior room. Then we were offered a superior room....4 flights of stairs ( no lift) which was actually smaller than the classic room. I declined this, understandably. Disorganised !

Our room was perfectly adequate and clean. The torn net curtain was not 4*!
The complimentary toiletries were only sufficient for one and not replenished during our 2 night stay. All the female staff were hard working and very polite but the male staff lazy. It was difficult to get a drink at the bar and the receptionist had to find the barman for us more than once. All the furnishings were of good quality as was the food. A few cushions on the outside furniture would be good as the chairs are hard. The leisure spa was excellent. We would definitely stay again.

Decor a bit dated. Really could do with a refit. Carpet especially. Staff was excellent apart from one. It was around 10 am on the morning of leaving. We was going back to the room after breakfast. He was walking away from our room which was 36 cursing to another member of staff because we had not left. I said we had the room to 12 noon. He rudely ignored and walked past me. We left 20 mins after.

On the downside, not impressed with the evening meal at all. The starter - calamari was rubbery/chewy. Main meal - Lasagne, was cold in the centre, for which the staff were very apologetic. My chosen desert - 3 scoops of ice cream - the 3rd scoop had completely melted by the time it was brought to the table! However, breakfast couldn't be faulted - very nice/good. Unfortunately, it felt to me as if the people who had booked through Travelzoo were being segregated/separated from the other guests for the evening meal, i.e. as to where/how they were seated.

Rather a question of the curates egg!
At dinner I ordered a bottle of the house rose, the waiter asked should I pour? why not , he did, and then said 'I'll get you an ice bucket, the wine was at room temperature and totally unpalatable, I did the unthinkable and took ice from the water jug to cool the poured wine!
Twenty five minutes after being seated the soup arrived, unlike the wine the pat of butter was rock hard, and impossible to spread, the soup was tasty, and I quite like a thick, or chunky soup, but a whole core of a tomato on my spoon was too much.
The Caesar salad, was as my wife put it ' not for ladies' I think she meant each individual element was too large, and in the case of the bacon incinerated to the point that when I managed to cut it flew off the table.
As for the sweets, tasty as the other courses, however, my wifes' sorbet was already partially melted on arrival at the table, my lemon tart with summer berry compote, some defrosted berries in a little juice from defrost and possible warming does not in any way near the definition of a compote.
Breakfast was good except for the foreign bodies ( yes we both had one) in the mushrooms, I had an opportunity to discuss this briefly with a member of the kitchen brigade he thought it may be grass, I had originally thought perhaps, if they were tinned mushrooms it could be part of a label rimmed off by a rotary can opener, when told the mushrooms came in plastic containers, it was my subsequent opinion they were shards of straw from the windrows mushrooms are grown on. If we had two pieces, it is likely this occurs frequently!

We paid £159 on a deal for 2 nts, room 25 was downstairs overlooking the car park, no nets on window, room/bathroom was very small, no fridge or safe in room. Breakfast ends at 9:30am, so if you are not early you will find that the food trays are not topped up, we arrived at 9:15 and most trays were empty, the chef was in no hurry to fill them. If you stay 2 nts or more and. Don't have your room made up they say you will get a drink at the bar each, we requested this but the room was made up, so no free brinks! There are a few pubs nearby for meals which are worth looking at. There is a swimming pool, sauna, hot room and gym if you use them. It's worth staying here if you are on a deal, we could return.

The food was excellent both evening meal and breakfasts however what really spoilt the visit was the 2 hours that it took to eat the evening meal. Time to order 10 minutes, time for starter to arrive from sit down 40 minutes. Wait from starter completion to main course a further 30 minutes. and time to leaving the table immediately after eating sweet was just short of 2 hours. Unreasonable. This experience was true of all customers on Sunday 30th June. Two walked out not even bothering to eat having waited 45 minutes and nothing arrived. Others were verbally loud others quietly fuming. The serving staff were calm and polite. It almost seemed they were used to it. It seemed a kitchen issue.

Time between courses in restaurant was far too long - school prom and large party booking seem to take up all the kitchen staff - rest of diners left to wait. We were not the only ones to complain about the delay in bringing meals.
When I spoke to a deputy manager after adjoining diners had complain she said she would be back to speak to me shortly - she didn't. When I caught her again she said she'd passed it to a junior who said he passed it to one of the restaurant waiters to go see us. He did but we didn't know he had been sent but thought he was just doing his job and asking us if we wanted coffee. Only when I said no unless it was complimentary and he accepted that did I realise he had been sent to placate us rather than a manager. He was very helpful and obliging but should not have been sent to cover for a manager.

Further to above, on being asked about our stay on checking out, I reiterated the above to the reception manager who was not pleased to hear how we had been affected. She offered us a complimentary night stay at the hotel which we accepted as all other aspects were fine.

Staff very friendly and helpful throughout, but evening service in the restaurant was disorganised and extremely slow, despite there being plenty of staff around. Pudding order was forgotten, then took 20+ minutes to arrive after reminder, then was undercooked. Needs tighter management! Also executive rooms on second floor (no lift) may not be suitable for some guests - rather cramped because of sloping ceilings. Room 71 especially has a gorgeous bathroom but access is down a narrow twisting flight of stairs, and visiting safely at night would necessitate flooding the bedroom with light. Guests should really be warned about this! Our request to change to a standard, ground-floor (and much more spacious) room was dealt with very pleasantly and efficiently.

I emailed them through their website to check whether pre-booking for spa treatment was required and had no reply. When arriving at the Hotel we checked in, booked dinner reservations and asked about the spa facilities to be advised it was all booked through the leisure facilities however when we visited the leisure facilities we were told that the lady had left and they no longer had this facility. With no other alternatives we were left with only half of what we expected! Very dissappointing as their website is extremely misleading!!

A few things with the room were a bit annoying. Water waste from the rooms above sounded like it was running down our walls, bed was hard, TV couldn't pick up Half the channels. The room was clean and a nice size in the old part of the building and these points did not change my opinion of the stay

It was a good deal through ‘Travelzoo’ . We loved the location, and surrounding countryside.

All the staff we encountered were friendly .Waiting over 30 minutes for desert, was really unacceptable, though ‘Kerry’ in the restaurant was apologetic and restored our faith in the service.
‘Colin’ (maintenance) was most helpful in suggesting places to visit

This is a very good, well run hotel with lovely facilities. Only problem is its location, too far from the historic locks and basins of Stourport for a quick visit. But we found and enjoyed them.

I specifically booked a hotel with swimming pool and jacuzzi as my wife prefer the later. The jacuzzi was not working and had not been so for several weeks. I would.have booked elsewhere has I known this. Neither the hotel website nor travelzoo link.mentioned this. I have been.conned. We left a note at reception and was told.this would.be pissed to.the hotel manager. Two.days later we haven't been contacted by him/her, disappointing
