Many of the Woodloch Resort’s visitors have been coming here for generations. For more than half a century, the family-owned retreat has beckoned guests to the banks of Lake Teedyuskung, nestled in the Pocono Mountains. With each passing generation, the resort expands around the lake, sweeping up more awards and recognition as it grows, including a 2014 selection by Fodor’s as one of the 10 Best All-Inclusive Resorts for Families in the U.S.

The rooms are spread across several lodges threaded through the woods. Some have rustic pine paneling and some have a private balcony with lake views; all have free Wi-Fi, a mini fridge and a day bed or sleeper sofa. Meals are served family-style in the convivial main dining room.

Guests also have access to the spa just down the road at sister property The Lodge at Woodloch. It has swept up awards from the likes of Travel + Leisure and Forbes, and in 2014, Conde Nast Traveler readers named it one of the Top 10 Destination Spas. Within its 40,000 square feet it offers treatments incorporating Delaware River stones, eucalyptus steam and caviar.

Out of doors, the offerings go on and on. On the lake, there’s sailing, waterskiing, fishing and ice-skating. On land there’s zip-lining, biking, golf and hayrides. The resort also arranges activities like family game nights and scavenger hunts, along with wall climbing, a petting zoo and archery.

From the press:
  • “A lot like staying at a close friend’s house. The difference? This friend has his own private lake with paddleboats and canoes, a slew of activities planned from early morning to late night … True, there are many all-inclusive resorts in the northeast, but Woodloch’s attention to detail sets it apart” -- New York Daily News
  • “Practically an amusement park and resort rolled into one” -- Fodor’s

Common areas operated on generator so there were plenty of activities

We booked a suite - a very nice room if we would have been able to see or do anything in it. The commercial power went out before we checked into room, and did not come back until just before we had to check out several days later. ONE hall light was provided in room with NO outlets while the facility was on generator. We had TOTAL darkness in bathroom, no way to charge phones, food spoiled in the refrigerator, etc. Pools and other activities were CLOSED for the entirety of our stay, NOTHING was offered to us from front desk upon check out for the inconvience we endured. Eating all meals on paper plates is what we would expect when camping for very little cost - NOT when spending $$$ to stay in a "RESORT!"

The friendly atmosphere generated by its staff. Most (not all) truly seem to enjoy being helpful and creating an upbeat experience for its guests. To give praise where its due -- Nina the waitperson, the young female lifeguard who aspires to write stand-up comedy, the young male lifeguard who hopes to be a comedian, the woman who lives locally and gives the boat tour, the performing artist who visited our table during breakfast, the owner who also visited our table before him -- together they succeeded in making our stay special.

Last month I thanked Woodloch and TravelZoo for the special affordable rate that enabled me to be there. I spoke so highly about Woodloch to my friends that three said they'd go if I joined them. Gladly I did, and we all had a great time. One of them works at The Pennsylvania Welcome Center on Interstate 81 just south of the New York State border. You can bet she will be telling tourists about Woodloch -- and for that matter, Travel Zoo!

Woodloch Resort has 3 hotels. But you cannot use all facilities at all 3. Luckily we were able to change our hotel to the Lodge by paying the difference in price. Not an easy task, but staff was very accommodating and bent over backwards to make us happy.

This is our third year at Woodlock Pines booked through travel zoo. We always attend with another couple and have found it to be a memorable get away. We usually go for an overnight.
