The 4-star Carden Park Hotel, spread across 1000 acres of an "impressive Cheshire estate" (The AA Hotel Guide), is not just for golfers. Yes, there are two courses here (one of which was designed by Jack Nicklaus), but there is also a newly renovated spa, an award-winning restaurant and activities for the whole family.
Chester is a 30-minute drive away and the Welsh border is 10 minutes from the hotel by car. On site there's plenty to do -- as well as the golf courses and the spa, there are two tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, an aerial ropes course, mountain biking and archery, plus a giant chess and draughts set in the ornamental garden. The onsite outdoor activities team can organise days out such as Jeep 4X4 experiences and quad biking.
The spa recently underwent a renovation that added a hydrotherapy pool, a sauna and tepidarium beds, and it has been awarded four bubbles by The Good Spa Guide. There's also a gym and fitness studio with classes available.
The AA-Rosette Redmond's Restaurant serves classic British fare, and there’s a live jazz band at lunch on the first Sunday of the month. It's also here that breakfast is served -- a hot-and-cold buffet with eggs cooked to order. Both Redmond's and the more informal The Vines Restaurant serve wines from the estate's private vineyard. There's also Morgan's Bar (where afternoon tea is also served) or Jack's Bar, in the golf clubhouse (non-golfers are welcome).
The spacious bedrooms are spread across the main hotel and courtyard area and have free WiFi. Some were recently renovated, with many rooms offering estate views.
Upgrade to a Carden Luxury Suite for views of the estate through floor-to-ceiling windows, a Nespresso coffee machine, a complimentary fully stocked mini bar, and a welcome box of chocolates and a bottle of the hotel's own sparkling wine on arrival.
