The Weinmeister Berlin-Mitte hotel is a trendy celebrity haunt in Berlin. The property is surrounded by boutiques, cafés and pretty courtyards in Scheunenviertel -- a historic Jewish part of Mitte, the city's most central district.
The location is great for sightseeing. It is 10 minutes' walk from Alexanderplatz and the New Synagogue (museum open Sunday-Friday, 1 April-30 September). It is just a little further to Museum Island, a collection of five museums on an island in the River Spree, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Highlights include the Neues Museum, which is home to the Prehistoric and Egyptian collections, and the Pergamonmuseum, where you can see artefacts from the Ancient Near East, Classical Antiquities and Islamic Art.
Guests get free access to the Holmes Place Gendarmenmarkt spa (30 minutes' walk away), which has a gym, a sauna and a swimming pool. Breakfast is served from 7-11am during the week, and from 8am-1pm at the weekends. The hotel's bar is named after German actress and regular guest Jessica Schwarz, best-known internationally for her part in Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.
The cosy bedrooms have designer furniture, underfloor heating and iMacs in place of TVs. Unusually, the bed is set in the centre of the room and has a built-in wardrobe to the rear. Medium Rooms offer more space than the basic Standard Rooms.
