Why We Love This Hotel

  • This "stylish" Cornish retreat is in a "lovely spot" with views of Fowey's waterfront (Alasdair Sawday's)
  • It occupies a Victorian former seamen's shelter and has 13 individually designed bedrooms
  • The Eden Project, Lanhydrock and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are less than 45 minutes' drive away

"Excellent hotel only problem is parking it was a bit to far to tote luggage. Food divine, room a little bit small , really clean, lovely toiletries & bath robes. Lots of stairs not recommended if you have bad knees"

With good food and harbour views, The Old Quay House is a "stylish hotel" within the Polperro Heritage Coast, which Alasdair Sawday's calls a "lovely spot". The Daily Telegraph says it has "dazzling views" across Fowey Estuary and "front row seats" to the river.

The property is a Victorian former seamen's shelter, that today has earthy tones, natural fabrics and big windows to make the most of the views. The 13 bedrooms are all individually designed, and Classic rooms have views of the quaint high street, while Superior rooms have partial estuary views.

The restaurant showcases local seafood, West Country meat and Cornish cheeses, and there is also a "sunny" (The Times' Cool Hotel Guide) terrace with "great" views of the river -- a fine spot to stop for a drink and watch the boats go by, and even spot the occasional dolphin.

Fowey is a “stunningly picturesque” town, says Condé Nast Traveller. It has plenty to do, whether it's browsing the independent boutiques and art galleries or eating fish and chips on a harbour wall. You can join the South West Coastal Path and walk from the head of the estuary to St Catherine’s Castle, 20 minutes away.

The Eden Project is less than 20 minutes' drive away. The National Trust property, Lanhydrock, is less than 25 minutes' drive away and The Lost Gardens of Heligan -- a beautiful botanical gardens -- is less than 45 minutes' drive away.

Don't book number 19 as it has the flue pipe going nearly all the time, sounds like an engine in the room it was shown as a large double but is was a standard double

Really enjoyed our stay.

Staff were excellent from top to bottom. Nothing too much trouble. In order to give a balanced review I should mention the parking is some way from the hotel, but they do all that they can to ensure if this is a problem, heavy bags etc., to sort this out. Would highly recommend & we don't normally bother with writing reviews but this place was deserves it.

My husband and I spent a lovely couple of days in Cornwall with one night at The Old Quay House. The staff were delightful, the food first class (the eggs benedict for breakfast were the best I have tasted) and the location superb.
Other Comments
The accommodation includes free parking which is great, but it is a ten minute walk away if its raining or you are not very sprightly, but no criticisms at all.

Very well run hotel, with all staff very helpful and friendly. We had a room with a estuary side view which was slightly bigger than the basic, so would recommend.

It is essential that parking details are sent in advance to clients. It is a long walk from the car park. Best to drive through the town, drop off luggage pick up the parking permit and then park in the “old station yard “ car park.

A great place to stay in Cornwall good rooms and food. Breakfast overlooking the harbour on a sunny autumn morning was fantastic - no parking at the hotel was not a problem with quiet narrow and streets to walk.

We visited to celebrate a special wedding anniversary and were delighted with the standard of the room we chose, the delicious food for dinner and breakfast; and the exceptional service from every member of staff we met

We were a little nervous of using a hotel with no car park, but the staff were very helpful in giving us clear directions and helping us unload our bags quickly. The car park is a 10 minute walk, but that's no hardship in beautiful Fowey.
