Why We Love It

  • Tower Bridge and the River Thames are five minutes' walk away
  • The hotel has a spa, a swimming pool, two restaurants and a cocktail bar

With views of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, the 5-star Grange City Hotel has some of the capital's top attractions on its doorstep.

The Tower of London, where you can discover 1000 years of "gruesome and compelling history" (Lonely Planet), is a 5-minute walk from the hotel. You can also visit the iconic Tower Bridge and walk 140 feet above the River Thames on the high-level glass-floor walkway, or head over to London Bridge (around 20 minutes' walk) and feast your way round Borough Market, "the food hound's favourite market" (Time Out).

Once a Royal Navy light cruiser, HMS Belfast is now a museum ship operated by the Imperial War Museum. It is moored on the south bank of the River Thames, a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel's Forum restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine, while Koto II specialises in Japanese food. The Lutetia Bar and Brasserie serves traditional French dishes, and its outdoor piazza, where you can dine al fresco in good weather, contains one of the largest remaining parts of London's old Roman wall.

Facilities at the hotel include a gym, an indoor swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room and a spa. There's also a virtual golf simulator that features 58 of the world's golf courses (supplements apply).

Executive Rooms feature a queen- or king-size bed, plus an additional seating area. Studios have a king-size bed with a separate lounge area. Some Studios have extra space for up to two sofa beds.

The best part about the Hotel is the location, breakfast and the pool and sauna facilities being complimentary during your stay.
Other Comments
We did enjoy our stay and we received all what was included in the deal with Travelzoo; which for the price is very good. However, there is room for improvement, the room upgrade wasn't impressive, the view for one was overlooking the scaffolding currently up, which was not ideal, but I guess it was why it was available, the room facilities for a 5 star could be better and the bathroom not the best for that status of hotel. The service in the bar could be improved, not very efficient and struggled to understand our requests which made it difficult ordering.

The location was good and the concierge staff were charming and helpful.

We were initially allocated a huge room with several sofas and considerable storage space. However this turned out to be primarily a conference/business room with a wooden (uncomfortable) wall-bed and nothing like the comfort advertised. Also we discovered the bins were full of tea/coffee waste. We were moved to one of the penthouse suites - a beautiful room - but this clearly had not been used for some time and had Christmas decorations stored in the cupboards). As it was after midnight when we moved we really didn't have much opportunity to enjoy the facilities and just wish we had been provided with the correct quality of room we had booked. We have stayed in many of the Leading Hotels of the World, so we know what excellent feels like. To be honest we've had more comfortable stays in a Premier Inn!
