Set on a 268-acre estate a 20-minute drive from Canterbury, Broome Park Hotel occupies a 17th-century stately home once owned by Lord Kitchener.

The mansion house was built between 1635 and 1638, and was transformed into a country-house hotel in the 1930s.

The private estate has an 18-hole, par-72 golf course designed by renowned golf architect Donald Steel. In the mansion house, you'll find the Kitchener Restaurant & Bar, which serves modern British dishes (many of the ingredients are sourced from producers in Kent) and daily afternoon tea. There's also a bar, a heated indoor pool, a sauna and a gym. Leisure facilities include squash, tennis courts, a croquet lawn and a snooker table.

Traditional Mansion House Rooms have views over the landscaped gardens and the golf course, and are on the first or second floor (there is no lift). There is free Wi-Fi throughout.

The hotel is 10 miles from Canterbury and there's a regular bus service into the city centre from a stop at the end of the drive. This partially walled city features the ruins of a Norman castle and one of the oldest cathedrals in England. The cute coastal town of Whitstable is a 30-minute drive away, and you can reach Dover and Folkestone within 20 minutes.

The food wasn’t the best. Could be due to the fact we were the only people eating in the restaurant that night. Fruit salad was apple and two pieces of pineapple. We didn’t complain but was a bit surprised. Everything else was fine but we do like our food so was a bit disappointed. Wasn’t expecting it to be brilliant but it was as I said disappointing Didn’t spoil out stay as it wasn’t a lot of money and was ok

The customer service from both the reception staff and housekeeping were excellent. Despite a small problem with our hot water on the first night the staff were exceptional at making our stay comfortable by moving us with no inconvenience. My only negative comment would be the breakfast - the staff didn't seem interested in serving anything other than the buffet although a menu was on the table with alternatives. The buffet was let down by having cold plates thus a cold cooked breakfast. If these things could be addressed then the stay was perfect and the staff were 100%. We had a very enjoyable stay. Thank you

The window pane in our room was broken which meant our room became cold and chokingly dry using an external electric heater. There is great difference in rooms that are priced the same, which was not communicated by the staff members when booking the rooms.
