Overview

Anglesey is home to "hidden beaches, chocolate-box villages and Wales's greatest concentration of ancient sites", says Lonely Planet. Trecastell Hotel is in the village of Amlwch, on the north coast of Wales's largest island, and has panoramic views of Bull Bay, a sheltered rocky cove overlooking the Irish Sea.

The hotel, which dates back to the 1920s, is a 5-minute drive from Amlwch Port, which has a heritage centre dedicated to the area's copper-mining past, and a 10-minute drive from Llanbadrig Church, said to have been founded in the fifth century by St Patrick. Beaumaris Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a 35-minute drive away. Make sure you walk along its inner wall for the best views of its layout and the surrounding scenery.

Anglesey has some cracking hiking trails. The Beaumaris-to-Holyhead section of the Anglesey Coastal Path is the star attraction -- you can join it on Bull Bay Road, directly outside the hotel. Trearddur Bay -- a sandy Blue Flag beach -- is half an hour's drive away.

Trecastell Hotel has a restaurant with views of Bull Bay, and a bar and a lounge.  With Double Sea View Rooms, some have a full sea view and three have a partial sea view. The rooms with the best views are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. King Sea View Rooms are more spacious and all have a full sea view. Wi-Fi is free.

Bull Bay Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course, a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Travelzoo guests can play a round here for £15 per person (the usual rate is £22 per person, per round).

Hotel clean and bright. Staff very friendly. Dining room bright and cheerful. We were able to walk from the hotel. Walking is a big part of our holidays. Nice not using the car once we arrived at the Trecastell Hotel.

The food in the restaurant was excellent. I had the trout and my partner had feathered beef. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and very well presented. The breakfast on both mornings too was very good, full English, or in this case Welsh, served hot by friendly staff.
Other Comments
Room 14 on the evening of Friday 1, February was cold (it was a very cold day). The radiator went off while we were at dinner and did no come on the next morning. However, by the Saturday evening on our return to the hotel the radiator was burning hot and seemed to stay on all night so the room was very, very warm. Swings and roundabouts I suppose. I would suggest that the desk which completely covers the radiator should be moved a little during the winter months to all the radiator to be more effective.
