Alexandra House is set in 20 acres of landscaped grounds within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, four miles from Swindon and half an hour's drive from the Cotswolds.

The Cotswold market town of Cirencester -- where you'll find "handsome streets of golden stone that are generously punctuated by green spaces", according to The Daily Telegraph -- is 30 minutes away by car. It has a selection of boutique shops, cafés and restaurants.

The Georgian city of Bath and Stonehenge are both an hour's drive away, while Highclere Castle, a Jacobethan country house set in parkland designed by Capability Brown -- and the filming location of "Downton Abbey" -- is a 35-minute drive away.

Avebury Stone Circle, a Neolithic henge monument containing three stone circles, is less than 20 minutes' drive away.

The 260-acre Lydiard Park is also 20 minutes' drive from the hotel. Lydiard House -- a striking Grade I-listed Palladian house -- is the beating heart of the park and is open Wednesday-Sunday from 11am-4pm.

Cotswold Water Park, an area of 40 square miles with more than 150 lakes that is ideal for walking, cycling, angling and a variety of watersports, is 25 minutes' drive away.

The hotel's Tempus Restaurant offers à la carte and set-menu dining, and the Tempus Bar serves drinks and lighter meals. The health club has a gym, a pool, a sauna and a steam room. Child swimming times are 1-3pm during local school holidays and on bank holidays, and 8am-8pm Saturday and Sunday.

Although the hotel is on the out skirts of Swindon if your looking for a peacful time it's top draw. It's within easy reach of the outlet village. The beautiful city of Bath is around 40mins drive away Or alternatively drive to Swindon station and get on the train £11.30 day return

The hotel room is lacking of an ambience. Feels like an office. Should improve the details of each room.

Where situated very pleasant.
Other Comments
Very limited TV stations ie 3 channels, bed mattress worn out rolled into centre of bed. Food not to the standard for a dever hotel, drinks expensive. No ee phone reception. And room service items for other rooms left in hallways for many hours. Staff seemed very poorly trained in running meal times.

We stayed for one night at Alexandra House and booked last minute with Travelzoo. The booking was easy and the hotel was lovely. We had all we needed in the room and a super breakfast the following morning.

The reception staff were very good, we had a problem with the pluming in our room on the first night, they changed our room without any problems. The price we paid for tis stay was value for money, I would stay again if I was in the area but would not spend time in the Bar or Resturant.
Other Comments
The food was very poor, the evening meal was OK but not great, especially for the price. The drinks in the Bar were over priced, the Wine was very poor quality for over £8 a glass and the bar staff would noyt let my wife have a taste before she chose. Te selection at breakfast was very good, however the hot selection was not very hot!

Other Comments
Bar drinks not good, bathroom not clean, plumbing poor. Shower ranged from boiling to arctic randomly. TV had only 3 channels (but not the ones they said!)
