good stay overall but some problems with breakfast. Staff were overstretched trying to cope with a very busy restaurant. Food was running short. Coffee and tea no longer served at table there is less of a personal touch which makes allt the difference especially at a large hotel

Offer included a bottle of wine (clearly marked on booking form). Were not offered this at check-in. Assumed would be in room. Was not, so had to return to reception to ask for this. Poor. Restaurant service was extremely poor. Had to wait for almost an hour for ordered starters on Thurs night and only got them after inquiring where they were. Young waiter offered to chase them, which he did. Tables left uncleared around us as other diners left. Did not eat in hotel second night. At breakfast on Fri am no-one to check us into dining room or show us to table. Instead, hung around for a while then decided to find table for ourselves. Despite it only being 8.20am, could not find table not previously used. Ended up sitting at a table with dirty crockery. Embarrassed as watched others having same dilemma. Again, tables not cleared as used. Very understaffed. Fire alarm at 7.20am Fri am (still in bed). Hurriedly evacuated room then alarm stopped. No explanation or apology.

Comparable to Fawlty Towers. Room furthest walk from reception. Toilet didn't work. Reception, housekeeping and duty manager didn't answer phone. Had to walk a long way to reception. Eventually was moved into another room virtually above original one. In both rooms Tv channels didn't work properly but had given up by this time. Breakfast - good variety but no bacon (and nothing to indicate there ever had been any). People near us had asked for some so we too asked and was told they couldn't find the chef/cook. The other people shared theirs with us. No hot water for tea or coffee and no marmalade. A lady called Emma was extremely helpful and sorted this out for us. I know she didn't usually work in the kitchen as she had helped us move room the day before. The hotel was clean and reception staff were pleasant but I would not recommend it. I had thought more highly of a De Veres hotel. Most disappointed and would have been very annoyed had we paid their normal rates.

This hotel was booked for my wedding anniversary, I choose this hotel because of the spa, initially I booked for the 13th May, I received an email to state that the spa was being republished and that the spa facilities where not in use until the 15th, I therefore rearranged to go to the hotel on the 15th May, on arrival I was extremely disappointed to say the least, after travelling over 70 miles for a spa hotel that the spa was still not in use, after being told over the telephone that everything would be back in use by the 15th May. I would now like to know exactly what Travelzoo is prepared to do regarding this matter, as I feel I was sold something that was totally misrepresented and should have been informed regarding the spa or lack of it. We chose hotel on basis of a pool, sauna, steam room. We were not informed that this facilitywas closed the weekend we went. Found out when we walked into leisure area. No-one told us even when we booked in. This stay was the start of our 40th wedding anniversary celebrations.
