Alexandra House is set in 20 acres of landscaped grounds within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, four miles from Swindon and half an hour's drive from the Cotswolds.

The Cotswold market town of Cirencester -- where you'll find "handsome streets of golden stone that are generously punctuated by green spaces", according to The Daily Telegraph -- is 30 minutes away by car. It has a selection of boutique shops, cafés and restaurants.

The Georgian city of Bath and Stonehenge are both an hour's drive away, while Highclere Castle, a Jacobethan country house set in parkland designed by Capability Brown -- and the filming location of "Downton Abbey" -- is a 35-minute drive away.

Avebury Stone Circle, a Neolithic henge monument containing three stone circles, is less than 20 minutes' drive away.

The 260-acre Lydiard Park is also 20 minutes' drive from the hotel. Lydiard House -- a striking Grade I-listed Palladian house -- is the beating heart of the park and is open Wednesday-Sunday from 11am-4pm.

Cotswold Water Park, an area of 40 square miles with more than 150 lakes that is ideal for walking, cycling, angling and a variety of watersports, is 25 minutes' drive away.

The hotel's Tempus Restaurant offers à la carte and set-menu dining, and the Tempus Bar serves drinks and lighter meals. The health club has a gym, a pool, a sauna and a steam room. Child swimming times are 1-3pm during local school holidays and on bank holidays, and 8am-8pm Saturday and Sunday.

Ease of access, I have a mobility problem but it was very easy to get around here. Lots of wide space, seats dotted around to rest or wait for a lift for example. My room had a wet room which was excellent, and the room had lots of space to manoeuvre.

Great place, especially if you have mobility issues. Lots of places to socialise and a large restaurant, so especially good for group events.

Service..... restaurant was busy so tried to order bar meal but said it would take 2hours and barman said there's nearly 80 people in restaurant that's why. Staff all appeared miserable and untrained.Room was Ok but the shower was dangerous as it would go scalding hot to cold ... thermostat not working. Was given another room still a problematic shower. Breakfast was poor for following reasons When we arrived there were no clean tables Staff gave poor guidance on where we were supposed to sit Sat down at dirty table which was eventually cleared but was still sticky. Dirty cutlery, milk in a glass Buffet half empty and some food poorly cooked for instance black pudding so hard you could not cut with a knife and sausage under done Buffet was messy and no one cleaning while staff stood around chatting
