Hallmark Hotel Preston Leyland is a good base for exploring the Lancashire countryside, with a national reserve and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within a half-hour's drive.
Leyland is known for its vehicle-building heritage, and a vintage fire engine that was built by Leyland Motors in 1938 stands at the front of the hotel. The British Commercial Vehicle Museum, which is dedicated to preserving the history of the UK's road-transport industry, is less than 15 minutes' walk from the hotel. The Ribble Estuary National Nature Reserve -- home to many species such as porpoises, grey seals, woodpeckers and sparrowhawks -- is around half an hour's drive from the hotel. The Ribble Way is a 73-mile footpath that follows the river from Langton to Ribblehead in the Yorkshire Dales; you can join the path at Langton or Preston (both are around 20 minutes' drive from the hotel).
Leisure facilities at the hotel include an indoor heated swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room and a Jacuzzi. The hotel's AA-Rosette-awarded Four Seasons Restaurant offers a menu of modern British dishes with an emphasis on locally sourced produce. For drinks and light bites, head to the J28 bar and lounge.
