The Rutland Arms Hotel is a Georgian property that was built in 1804. It's located in Bakewell, a busy market town in the Peak District National Park, and is steeped in history and tradition. Not only is The Rutland Arms Hotel reported to be the birthplace of the Bakewell pudding -- the thing that Bakewell is "probably best known for", according to Lonely Planet -- but it's also hosted the likes of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, JMW Turner and Lord Byron.
This stone-built property is reportedly where Austen stayed while writing "Pride and Prejudice", and Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House, which both feature in the 2005 film adaptation of the novel, are both within 15 minutes' drive of the hotel.
Bakewell is "ringed by famous walking trails" (Lonely Planet), so it's a great base for those that appreciate the great outdoors. There's a 3.5-mile circular route along the Monsal Trail to Hassop Station, returning across fields to Bakewell. The spa town of Buxton and Matlock, Derbyshire's county town, are 20 minutes' drive away.
The hotel's Square Restaurant serves locally sourced produce, and all bedrooms feature country-style furnishings, a television, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There's free Wi-Fi throughout.

We stayed in the main hotel building and the room was very nice overlooking the town.
The room was spotless and the breakfast was superb.
The guy at the desk on arrival was one of the most professional front of house people I have ever dealt with.

The hotel is a perfect place to stay to walk the Monsall trail as it begins less than a mile away.

This was a lovely short break for me and my little dog. The room was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The staff were efficient, welcoming and friendly. The hotel has a calm, relaxing feel about it and the food is very good indeed. Dogs are welcome and this makes it an ideal place from which to explore the Peak District.

The only slight point to add is that, as a vegetarian, the menu contained limited choice for me; having said that, all meals were of a high quality.
