The Del Marcos hotel is a retro lover’s dream come true. The 1950s-era boutique hotel is styled to mid-century perfection. Originally built as a private retreat for a wealthy couple, the two-story U-shaped building was reborn as a 17-room adults-only boutique hotel, decorated in the mid-century style so popular in Palm Springs.
Where other local businesses try to recreate this look in a kitschy-cool way, the Del Marcos was carefully furnished down to the last detail to create an ambience of fresh retro chic.
The fieldstone and redwood exterior is topped with a purposely askew roof and doorways are similarly asymmetrical. You could easily mistake it for a house in Fred Flintstone’s neighborhood.
Just 17 rooms make up the guest quarters here, some with kitchenettes and/or patios and all with throwback names like the Errol Flynn and the Ocean's 11 rooms. Bathrooms are firmly in the 21st century with frameless glass doors and floor-to-ceiling tiles.
Peaceful relaxation is the agenda at the interior courtyard pool deck. If gazing at the looming San Jacinto Mountains and swaying palms isn’t enough action for you, take a five-minute walk to the main strip on Palm Canyon Drive, lined with shops and restaurants. For a more adrenaline-inducing thrill, drive 18 minutes north to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, where you can ride from ground to 8,000 feet up in under 30 minutes. Amenities include complimentary bicycles to explore the area, free Wi-Fi, and a complimentary daily breakfast.
