Buxted Park Hotel is set on a 312-acre estate roamed by fallow deer, in rural East Sussex. This AA 4-Red-Star lodging occupies a striking Palladian mansion dating from the 18th century, and has hosted suitably grand guests including William Wordsworth, Winston Churchill and Marlon Brando.
Glyndebourne, the renowned opera house, is a 20-minute drive away, while National Trust property Wakehurst Place -- an Elizabethan manor with ornamental gardens -- and Anne Boleyn's childhood home Hever Castle, are within 35 minutes' drive. The hilltop town of Rye, "often described as England's quaintest town… a little nugget of the past" (Lonely Planet), takes an hour to reach by car.
Ornate columns, intricate plasterwork and a gilt coat of arms decorate Buxted Park Hotel's grand lobby lounge. Guests can relax with coffee, cocktails and afternoon tea by the fireplace in the bar, which features high ceilings, chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows, and dine in the 2-AA-Rosette restaurant. There's also a terrace with views of the grounds.
Classic Rooms are split between the main house and the garden wing. Executive Rooms are larger than Classic Rooms and are in the garden wing. Wi-Fi is free.

Good service with a special mention to Liam one of staff in the dining room who was a good representation of how staff should interact with customers

Negative comments would be hotel lacked some atmosphere with decoration and would question how the hotel was awarded 2 AA rosettes as the food was not good with a lot of basic skills lacking which included overcooked seasonal vegetables, non filletted fish and suprisingly fish fillets in a Chicken Ceasar Salad!!!! Sandwiches were made with shop bought bread an for just under £10 per sandwich would expect fresh local backed bread.

A series of issues arose during our stay connected with service in the bar and the restaurant followed by housekeeping failing to service our room. We did discuss this with management and to their credit they dealt with our comments well and followed up in a very positive way.

We were fortunate to be upgraded by the hotel (without asking) to a suite which was fabulous. Lovely staff.

I think perhaps Travelzoo should make it clear in their offer clear that although a £35 per person allowance is made for dinner a discretionary 10% service charge is added to all restaurant bills, which means to the whole of one’s dinner bill. We were very happy with the service and chose to pay this but it could come as a bit of a shock!

Spent three nights here in late July. Scorching weather so air-con in room welcome. Nice hotel in stunning location. Money towards the meal part of the package but would probably not choose to eat here normally. Shame there's no draught beer available, but 75cl bottle of prosecco very welcome on arrival to drink out on the terrace after dinner. Room perfectly good and staff all friendly and helpful. Breakfast good standard especially the fresh fruit selection.

We enjoyed our one night stay.
Setting was superb; room (Classic) was OK; food very good.
One of us needed gluten-free food and there was ample choice.
Quality of food and service at dinner was excellent but we would have preferred tables to have been further apart. Also, we had no choice over time for dinner and were allocated 8.30 pm which was rather late for us. Although we presented ourselves at 8.20 we were not shown into the restaurant till 9 pm.
We hope to return and if so will seek to get dinner reservations resolved well before arrival.

Our room was very comfortable and nicely furnished, with an extremely comfortable Superking bed. We had lovely views over beautiful landscape, and a pleasant balcony to sit out on. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was good (though not particularly exciting.) A nice touch having complementary water and fresh milk in the fridge.
Other Comments
We were disappointed to have been put next door to a very loud and raucous family staying in room 21, who kept us awake until 2am drunkenly shouting at each other. They also had the audacity to order drinks for themselves on our Room 22. We only discovered this when we were leaving the hotel and paying the bill, and could easily have missed it. There should be a better system for the night porter to ensure that people pay cash for late night drinks, Preventing such scams.
We would have liked some acknowledgement from the hotel that it was our 44th Wedding Anniversary. This was stated on our booking, but was not mentioned on our arrival. The hotel seemed rather distracted in making preparations and setting up for a wedding which was happening the next day.

My only criticism would be at the availability of televisions in hotel rooms. I know I'm probably in a minority here, but on our second night our neighbours were perhaps hard of hearing and couldn't live without tv noise. It would be great if some rooms were available that were tv free. Thoughtless neighbours apart, we hope to return.

Great Margarita - thank you Luke.
Lovely food both for dinner and breakfast. Service excellent- thank you Liam.
Nice room
My daughter and grandson arrived for breakfast to surprise me for my birthday. Liam welcomed them and without a fuss, sat them at our table and provided them with breakfast - thank you!
Other Comments
Booked the hotel for the night before my birthday as a treat. Obviously hotel was quiet which is why promotion was on but went to the bar early afternoon and we was the only couple there. The bar was silent, not even any background music to add atmosphere.
Had a lovely meal in the evening in the restaurant (Liam was a real star and looked after us beautifully) but we came out into the bar after and again it was just the two of us - we had a great cocktail but again sat in silence.
Such a shame when I was really looking for a relaxed evening and the chance to celebrate my birthday. So we left after a drink and was in bed by 9.45pm
Such a shame about the atmosphere- it could be such a great place to relax, read the paper and spend some time. A little music would transform this bar.

without exception the staff were extremely helpful and because my partner and myself both have mobility problems, they went the extra mile to ensure that we were well looked after. It was nice too to see a number of elderly staff, again very capable and looked after us so well.

I have taken a star off since we had some workers with a large noisy lift doing repair work right outside our room making noise and dust. No one mentioned this to us on arrival at the desk. However, I happened to mention it to someone on the staff in passing and she herself came back to offer us one of two other rooms. We appreciated her effort and moved upstairs to a different room. However, they really shouldn't have been booking out this room at all in my opinion. You couldn't have used the terrace anyway. I would be most careful before booking next time. Otherwise it's a great place. The dining/breakfast room is very claustraphobic and in my opinion unattractive. A shame they don't always use the Orangery.

The reception hall was drab and not inviting. It appears that the main function for Buxted Park Hotel is for weddings, above all else. The dining room has no windows. Considering the price to stay at BPH, the general appearance is tired. When checking out of the hotel, I was charged for drinks which I had not had the previous evening. The receptionist dealt with this and gave me a further discount.
