Driving up the long private road towards the grand Eynsham Hall, you would be forgiven for briefly imagining you were the Lord and Countess of Grantham, returning home. In fact, Bampton of "Downton Abbey" fame is a mere 20 minutes from here and Eynsham Hall dates back to the same early 20th-century era.

The grand manor house is surrounded by acres of well-manicured gardens and vast rolling swathes of parkland beyond. It's understandably popular for weddings and it's a good location for those looking to visit the wider Cotswolds, Blenheim Palace or Oxford. There are some great pubs in the area to explore, and the hotel's newly refurbished Gun Room Bar is a cosy place to curl up with something warming.

The restaurant serves an extensive buffet breakfast in the morning with cooked and continental options, and there's a full menu available at lunch or dinner. The bar also has more informal options, such as sandwiches, on offer, and there's an impressive afternoon tea menu (which must be pre-booked). There's also an indoor swimming pool, a sauna and a fitness club, and beauty treatments are available on request.

The bedrooms have free Wi-Fi and views over the gardens. Main Hall rooms are in the manor, while Standard and Cosy rooms are in the adjacent Lodge building. Some are on the smaller side but all are tastefully decorated and have tea- and coffee-making facilities.

The main hotel and grounds looked lovely.

Had to move room as sink blocked. Receptionist seemed offhand and not concerned. Second room looked OK but there was no soap, there were hairs in the shower, there was a stain on the duvet cover. Did receive an apology and discount. But manager's customer care skills were lacking. Very disappointed.

Small room only one tea bag, long walk to the restaurant and bar. having to ask for our bottle of wine. Bill overcharge over £100 corrected but should be correct in the first place.

There is no lift in the main building, where we were staying. It made it quite awkward with having a pushchair. We were originally on the 2nd floor, but were moved to the 1st floor, which was slightly easier as we only had one flight of stairs to carry the pushchair up.

The beautiful gardens and well decorated main hall.

We were there on an unusually hot weekend and they did not have air conditioning or proper ventilation to handle it.

Beautiful building in beautiful grounds. This was our second visit as we like the place very much. We almost felt like Lord and Lady of the Manor ☺

The grounds are gorgeous. Unfortunately it rained all the time we were there... I'm sure it looks even better in sunshine!

Beautiful grounds and lovely area.

We were in a room in the lodge area which was outside of the beautiful hall and it was the smallest hotel room I had ever stayed in. The walls were paper thin and there was a buzzing noise coming from the bathroom all night so my husband couldn't sleep. Staff weren't too apologetic for this noise and didn't seem to care too much.
