Gainsborough House Hotel is a Georgian building, 20 minutes walk from Kidderminster town centre. Kidderminster is the largest town in the Wyre Forest District and the River Stour runs through it. The Georgian town of Bewdley, on the River Severn, is a few minutes' drive away and is home to Bewdley Museum, where you can see a World War II air-raid shelter (check opening times) and find out more about the history of the area's crafts, such as rope making. The museum also leads through to the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens.
The location is ideal for families -- West Midland Safari Park is just over a mile away and the Severn Valley Railway is two miles from the hotel. The Severn Valley Railway runs from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth, with mostly steam-hauled trains, which have been running since 1862. Stop off at Highley Station and visit The Engine House to see a collection of steam locomotives.
From 28 November-24 December, children can visit Santa at West Midlands Safari Park and get a gift to take home.
Severn Valley Country Park is eight miles away, where you can walk along the waymarked trails or follow the National Cycle Route 45 from Bridgnorth to Bewdley.
All bedrooms at the hotel have free Wi-Fi. Family rooms have a double bed with either a sofa bed or three single beds.
The hotel lounge has an open fireplace, and the 24-hour bar has a 50-inch plasma TV showing Sky Sports. Drinks can be taken through to the conservatory. The restaurant serves classic pub dishes, and the kitchen uses local and seasonal produce where possible.
Regular trains run from Kidderminster to Birmingham Snow Hill, which is a 10-minute walk from The Bullring shopping centre.
