Bailbrook House Hotel -- a Grade II-listed Georgian mansion built by architect John Eveleigh in the 1790s, is nestled in manicured gardens on the outskirts of Bath. The property boasts country and city vistas, a laid-back atmosphere and a honey-stone façade.

The city centre, home to the Roman Baths, The Pump Room and the Royal Crescent, is a 15-minute taxi ride away. There is also a regular bus service into town (the bus stop is 500 metres from the hotel), or you can embark on the pleasant hour-long stroll along the Kennett and Avon Canal. Return to a traditional afternoon tea served on the terrace in fine weather or in one of the three Royal Lounges (supplements apply).

"The Cloisters Restaurant offers romantic, high-end dining, and staff are on the ball," according to The Daily Telegraph. The restaurant (open Wednesday-Sunday) holds two AA Rosettes and is in the manor house's vaulted cellars. The Conservatory Bar is a lovely spot for a snack or an after-dinner nightcap, and the Lansdown Restaurant serves a buffet breakfast.

Executive Rooms are in the modern annex adjacent to the mansion house. There is a small gym. Wi-Fi is free.

Restaurant let the stay down, over an hour wait to receive our 1st course, wine glass had chip on rim & second course was missing potatoes! Medium glass of wine starts at £8.

The peace and quite of the room. Mind you this was end of week and a wedding party were due to arrive on the morning we left.

Only comment was the non-availability of the hotel restaurant until after 8.30, both on the night of our arrival and when trying to book a table earlier on the next night. Seemed strange in view of the fact that it was mid-week and no major functions were on. Also when booking in I ordered a paper for the following morning that never appeared and on checking my request for a paper had not been logged onto the system. Other than this the staff were polite, arm and friendly and the remainder of our stay was incident free.

Breakfast was excellent but unfortunately dinner was not of a very high standard. The food wasn't very hot.The meat was tough. Our booking wasn't correct but I understand this was due to lack of communication from Travelzoo and not the fault of the hotel.

Housekeeping was a bit hit and miss and restaurant service was slow... Both due to staff numbers I think. Monika on reception was really helpful and friendly, a great asset.
