Overview

This 16th-century Tudor property in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon was formerly an inn, and still has original half timbering, leaded windows, oak beams and an open fireplace. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare's Birthplace, Bridge Street and the High Street are less than 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.

Standard rooms are in the main house and the modern wing, and Executive Rooms are all in the main house. Dinner is in the AA-Rosette-awarded Will's Place restaurant. Wi-Fi is free.

While in Stratford, you can visit the scenes of key moments in Shakespeare's life, starting at his birthplace and childhood home on Henley Street. Anne Hathaway's Cottage & Gardens, where Shakespeare courted his future wife, is a 25-minute walk from the hotel. A short drive outside Stratford is Mary Arden's Farm, where his grandparents lived -- explore the hay-bale maze, see a falconry display or watch the farmer's wife prepare home-grown food in the farmhouse kitchen. Finish at Holy Trinity Church, where the Bard was both baptised and buried.

The Avon Ring -- a 5-minute walk away -- is a network of canals that connects Stratford-upon-Avon with Evesham, Tewkesbury and Worcester. Other attractions in the town include Stratford Butterfly Farm, which has the UK's largest collection of tropical butterflies, and the Stratford Town Walk. Warwick and Kenilworth castles are both within 25 minutes' drive of the hotel.

From the press:

  • "Will's Place [is] the hotel's opulent dining room, where the menu lists modern British dishes to satisfy most tastes" -- The AA Restaurant Guide 2017

The hotel was undergoing refurbishments which we were not made aware of until after I had booked. I thought I was booking a room in a historic building for my husbands 60th birthday but it was like a travel lodge. Very disappointing.

It's location. Peaceful night. Car parking available.

I would have preferred that staff didn't keep asking me if I was using a Travel Zoo voucher in front of other guests, particularly my travelling companion. I would have preferred ' are you on an inclusive package'.

The food was lovely and they were so dog friendly, which is great, as I have a guide dog.

WE loved our room with it's sloping floors, it was very comfortable and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is very central, we liked the enclosed Garden as that was good for the dog and we'd stay there again for sure.

The old part was lovely to sit and have a drink. Good position to walk every where.
Other Comments
The meal was not very good. I had shin of beef kale and mash potatoes. The beef was very good just fell apart but the potato was pureed and the whole meal was like eating Luke warm baby food. For dessert I had bakewell tart which tasted fatty and the pastry was very hard. I would go back but not to eat.
