Set right on the beach, the chalet-style Beach Club Resort looks out over the Strait of Georgia from sleepy Parksville, on the east coast of Vancouver Island. This is a great place to bring children -- there's a 39-acre Community Park right on the seafront and the water at the hotel’s beach is shallow and ideal for little ones.

For adult visitors, there are six golf courses in the vicinity, and the pretty 70-acre Milner Gardens is just 10 minutes from the resort by car. A 45-minute drive to the north lies Courtenay, known for its fossils and prehistoric remains, and just over an hour away is Mount Washington Alpine Resort for skiing in winter.

At the hotel, you can admire the sea views from the hot tub while the kids take a dip in the indoor heated pool, or relax with a marine-inspired treatment at the on-site Stonewater Spa.

There's also a family-friendly steak and seafood restaurant, serving hearty fare from local suppliers (including sustainable fishermen, as recommended by the Vancouver Aquarium). During warmer months, be sure to nab a table on the beachfront patio for front-row seats of the sunset.

The rooms are made up of suites, ranging in size from studios to 1-bedroom apartments. All have floor-to-ceiling windows that lead out to private balconies (or patios) overlooking the beach, mountains or town. The smallest come with a mini fridge, coffee maker and kettle, while the full suites also have full-size washing machines and dryers (washing powder is supplied) and a full kitchen. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Opt for a room on the higher floors for the best views.

There is an optional CA$2 per-room, per-night eco fee, which is added to your bill on checkout.

Spacious suite with two bathrooms and well equipped kitchen.
Other Comments
This resort is in a great location for shopping/groceries although the area is not secluded like some other local resorts. We found the suite very comfortable with fine linens on the bed but somewhat thin towels. The shower was very large - a grab bar could be helpful for some - with nice toiletries. The separate toilet is a fine idea. Underground parking was appreciated, staff was very friendly and helpful although the decor was somewhat dark.
