Overview

Built in 1625 and later absorbed into the world's first garden city, Letchworth Hall is a 4-star manor-house hotel with preserved original features such as grand chimney stacks, oak panelling, rustic beamed ceilings and stone fireplaces. Previous guests include Oscar Wilde, Daryl Hannah and Elaine Paige.

The property is between the market towns of Hitchin and Baldock, and is nestled within eight acres of countryside which is roamed by muntjac deer and Letchworth black squirrels -- which were first spotted in their natural habitat in 1912.

The hotel has its own spa, offering treatments ranging from manicures to massages, and there is also an on-site Nuffield Health Centre which all guests can access for free. This has a gym, a heated indoor pool, a sauna and a steam room. Lytton's Restaurant has a menu offering British and international dishes, and the bar has views of Letchworth Golf Course, which has 18-holes and was established in 1905. There are 87 ensuite bedrooms, and there is complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.

Duxford Imperial War Museum is a 30-minute drive from the property. Cambridge, St Albans Cathedral and Woburn Abbey Estate are within a 40-minute drive, and although Woburn has a seasonal closure, the grounds remain open.

The food was quite exceptional. WE were however very disappointed that the Spa and Pool were out of order for the entire weekend The reason for us going was so that we could use these facilities We had no prior notice though the Hotel thought we had been informed. There is not much to do around the area as I have limited mobility.

very nice staff in all areas especially reception and bar. It is difficult to go to pool and spa without going outside and this is not ideal. A better clearer indoor route would be helpful.

I went with my partner for a rare night away, I have 2 children with autism and we have constant interrupted sleep and we really needed a good nights sleep. We have no family nearby so arranging childcare is a major task. My sister came from Bath to give us a night away. At Mercure ketch worth we were in a room which had a corridor door directly outside our room and it had no slowing mechanism therefore it slammed throughout the night waking us up periodically. I'm so upset that we didn't get a decent nights rest. I complained to the hotel and they said to contact travel zoo directly. We stayed in room 43. What can you do to compensate me for this disappointment.

We were rather surprised and disappointed to find on our two night stay at the hotel, having paid £138 for two nights' bed and breakfast for two, that the hotel itself was running an offer of an overnight stay for two, including a superior room, a bottle of bubbly, dinner and full English breakfast, for £99. We paid £70 for our dinner on the first evening (and paid a similar amount at the restaurant at which we ate on the second evening in nearby Hitchin. That was a very considerable difference in price. I suppose the moral is that we should always check your offers against what is available at the hotel but I had not expected to have to do this.
