Set in 176 acres of Hampshire parkland, the 4-star, family-run Macdonald Botley Park Hotel in Southampton is a country-style property with a spa, award-winning restaurant and plenty of sports facilities.
Exploring the local area from Botley Park is easy -- the hotel is around 25 minutes’ drive from Southampton and Portsmouth, which both offer ferry services to nearby Isle of Wight and the New Forest National Park is a 25-minute drive away. But the hotel is a destination in itself: there’s a spa offering a selection of treatments (charges apply), as well as a steam room, indoor pool and sauna. There’s a tennis court, squash court and gym, plus guests can relax in the property’s landscaped gardens, or walk in the surrounding woodland.
The hotel’s main restaurant, Winchester Restaurant, is a highlight. It holds an AA Rosette, and serves gourmet British cuisine in elegant surroundings -- look for dishes such as line-caught sea bass with creamed baby leeks and potted shrimp, or pot-roasted shank of lamb with a smoked garlic and burgundy jus. Breakfast is also served here. The more casual Swing and Divot offers salads, sandwiches, steaks and burgers, while The Gallery Bar is the place for cocktails and afternoon tea.
There are 130 traditionally furnished rooms, all offering satellite TV and free WiFi. Feature Rooms and Suites have a more sumptuous design and offer more space, sleeping up to 2 adults and 2 children, and most have views of the landscaped gardens below.
