Set in the Victorian spa town of Harrogate, the Hotel du Vin is an upscale choice spread across a row of Georgian houses in the Old Town, opposite part of The Stray, Harrogate’s band of pretty, open grassland. It’s only a 10-minute walk from the Royal Pump Room Museum, while the Royal Hall, an Edwardian Theatre, is 8 minutes away. The RHS Garden Harlow Carr -- complete with trails, tea rooms and a log maze -- is a 10-minute drive away. The Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks are both less than an hour’s drive away.
The hotel has a pretty walled courtyard, a Pewter top bar and a French-influenced destination bistro that offers seasonal fare (including a popular Sunday brunch menu) and al fresco dining. Wine is a top priority here (the clue’s in the name), so expect to see around 600 labels on the menu. If you’re feeling stuck, there’s a sommelier on hand to help, and you can ask to roam around in the glass-walled wine cellar too. This is also where breakfast and afternoon tea are served. Other facilities include a secluded on-site spa, which offers therapeutic and holistic treatments, steam rooms, nail bars and a tanning booth (charges apply).
The 48 rooms and 4 suites are all simply but elegantly decorated and feature free WiFi, fine Egyptian linen, deep baths and rainfall showers, and flat-screen TVs. Some also feature roll top baths.
