The 4-star Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel & Spa is a "beautiful and secluded" (Liverpool Echo) traditional country house set in 27 acres of Cheshire woodland.
The property is 15 minutes' drive from the Roman walls and Tudor buildings of Chester -- "one of English history's greatest gifts to the contemporary visitor" (Lonely Planet). Liverpool, where you can explore the famous Albert Dock -- home to The Beatles Story exhibition and Tate Liverpool art gallery -- is 30 minutes' drive from the hotel. The many shops, bars and restaurants of Manchester city centre are less than an hour's drive away.
The AA-Rosette-awarded Craxton Wood Grill restaurant serves "imaginative dishes" using "quality produce", says The AA Restaurant Guide 2017. There is also a cocktail lounge with an outdoor terrace that is open in fine weather.
The "wonderful" (Manchester Evening News) Vital Health & Wellbeing Club and Spa, which underwent a £1.4 million renovation in 2014, features an indoor pool, a gym, relaxation and treatment rooms, and a coffee bar serving healthy snacks and refreshments. The extensive thermal suite includes a sauna, a steam room, two aromatic drench showers, two footbaths and an ice fountain.
We've also negotiated a Spa Day w/Massage & Facial for £49.
According to The AA Hotel Guide 2017, the hotel offers "a variety of spacious and comfortable rooms, well equipped with modern amenities". Executive Rooms are larger than Classic Rooms, and feature garden views, upgraded toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
