Why We Love This Hotel

  • Delve into British railway history at the Engine House Visitor Centre in Highley. It is 40 minutes' drive from the hotel.
  • There are almost 500 listed buildings in Ludlow. With its "incredible Jacobean facade" (The Daily Telegraph) the hotel is among the most recognisable.
  • The property was built in the 17th century. It has feather motifs adorned on its exterior, a tribute to the Prince of Wales.
  • The Plume@Feathers restaurant has an AA Rosette.
  • Learn about the town's history at Ludlow Museum, Ludlow Castle, and St Laurence's Church. They are all approximately five minutes' walk from hotel.
  • The hotel is five minutes' drive from the borders of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape.
  • For panoramic views over the castle and town make for the Whitcliffe Common Nature Reserve. It is 20 minutes' walk from the hotel. The town is also a great base from which to explore The Welsh Marches.

A great little hotel. Attentive staff. Food very good. A larger than normal room with a good fan (temp 30 degrees!) And parking, you have to pay a small fee but at least its at the hotel.

Staff lovely and polite, well mannered but unsupervised so dinner took two hours with me having to find a manager to ask a member of the waiting staff to take both the dessert and coffee orders - coffee never came as we gave up. The food was excellent, so it was a shame that the organisation amongst waiting staff was lacking. The poor gent on the bar when we arrived was new, and also unsupervised, so had no clue about how to pour an Aperol - something we only chose because he said they had no citrus gin (there were three varieties when we looked later) When I commented on having to wait for 35 minutes for my drink, a manager did offer us a free drink later, so they are aware of the problems,

Will someone please clean the inside of the leaded glass in the front windows. The view looking out from the table was someway spoilt by the thick (and I mean thick) nests of cobwebs.

Unusually for travelzoo, you pay on departure rather than when booking. I thought we’d already paid in advance but it soon got sorted. Good to know to avoid confusion.

First visit to Ludlow, it’s a very beautiful area The hotel is very central and has a decent sized carpark ( the access is a little bit difficult to negotiate) The food was absolutely delicious and worth the wait for food made to order and not mass produced
Other Comments
The building is very old and picturesque- the floors are very creaky so you are very aware of people moving about their rooms

The call before we arrived to ask if there were any special needs or requirements. The beautiful room was spotlessly clean and the staff were lovely. Basically you could not have asked for anything more. Would be more than happy to go back again.
